Ryan O'Byrne will finally be known for something other than snatching purses
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ryan O'Byrne was so tired of being known as the dude that stole a purse that he was looking for an opportunity to do something that would make people forget all about his pity theft. When Habs goaltender Carey Price headed to the bench on a delayed penalty call last night, the Ivy League dropout saw his opportunity to do something truly unforgettable.

As for scoring an own goal, probably every defenseman in the NHL has had that happen at least once (heck, it almost happened to Hunwick the other night). Just too bad for O'Byrne that it happened as it did for him.

What's not understandable is the way the Habs reacted. First Carbo pulls O'Byrne out of the game, then the fans start chanting his name after they lose the shootout. He hadn't even touched the ice since the goal and didn't take a shot in the SO, yet they vocally pin the loss entirely on him, forcing him to leave the bench in shame. Way to support your young players.
I really do think the Habs are a dysfunctional meltdown waiting to happen. Keep an eye on Price, if he stumbles it might get really ugly.
