Bruins stage 3rd period comeback, win in SO
The Bruins scored two goals in the final 1:28 of the third period to tie the game up at 3-3 and force overtime. Patrice Bergeron finished off the comeback for the Bruins with a shootout goal and Tim Thomas did his part but shutting down the Senators in the shootout.
After a scoreless first period, the Bruins struggled to get things going offensively early in the second period. The Bruins had just two shots on goal in the first 11:14 of the second period when the Senators' Jonathan Cheechoo was whistled for hooking. With Cheechoo in the box, the Bruins had a chance to get something going on the power play but coughed up the puck in the attacking zone. Mike Fisher's pass sprung Daniel Alfredsson for a breakaway and the first goal of the game at 11:31 of the second period.
The Bruins evened things up at 1-1 with 2:54 left in the second period when Blake Wheeler's shot from the left circle off a good cycle beat Brian Elliott for his 3rd goal of the season.
Milan Michalek gave the Sens a 2-1 lead with 10:46 left in the period when he went five hole to beat Tim Thomas.
Mike Fisher made it 3-1 Ottawa when his tough angle shot from the along the right wing boards on the goal line changed directions went it deflected off of a skate and made its way past Tim Thomas.
With 1:28 left in the third period and Tim Thomas on the bench in favor of the extra attacker, Mark Recchi tipped home Derek Morris' shot to give the Bruins new life at 3-2.
The Bruins weren't done yet. With 22 seconds remaining in regulation, David Krejci slipped the puck past Brian Elliott with a quick off a feed from Derek Morris for the game-tying goal.
Both teams had several scoring chances in the overtime session, but couldn't find the back of the net. After 65 minutes of hockey, it was off to the shootout for the second straight game.
Shootout
Senators 1st Shot:Alex Kovalev rang the puck off post.
Bruins 1st Shot: Wheeler tried to tuck the puck past Brian Elliot on the backhand but couldn't elevate the puck and Elliott made a right pad save.
Senators 2nd Shot:Daniel Alfredsson's shot hit the post on Thomas' glove side.
Bruins 2nd Shot:Bergeron fakes a shot and gets Elliot to bite and Bergeron's shot slowly tickles past the goal line under Elliott. 1-0 Bruins lead
Senators 3rd Shot:Jason Spezza is denied by Tim Thomas with a right pad save. B's WIN!!!
Notes:
- Derek Morris factored into both of the third period goals and has his second straight 2 point night.
- Mark Recchi played in his 1,500th game (most of any active NHL player).
- Tim Thomas made 27 saves, including one cross-crease dive that almost gave Jack Edwards an aneurysm.
- Byron Bitz had his first fight of the season when he traded punches with Matt Carkner.
- If you are Steve Begin's teammate, you have to appreciate how willing this guy is to stick up for the boys in black & gold.
- Vladimir Sobotka recorded 7 hits.
- Patrice Bergeron was the only Bruins' skater not to record a hit tonight (33 hits for the B's tonight).
- Patrice Bergeron looked very good in the faceoff circle (69%).
- Bruins will return to game action on Thursday night when they host the New Jersey Devils.

Can we please just have like a 5-1 or 6-1 win or something like that? I’m going to have a damn heart attack if this keeps up.

I’d take 5 out of 6 points over losing and winning big and getting 2 out of 6

haha but you can’t hate a game like that.
2-0-1 since Looch and Savy have been out. Who would have thought?

exactly
i really believe this team has the youth and depth to replace any individual, and that depth will keep them good for years. so the injuries come and we get by. its only six weeks for both of them anyways.

The best part about this win is the fact my brother is a Senators fan!
You don't score on 100% of the shots you don't take!

Do any of you guys know where I can watch Bruins games that have already happened not through NHL Center Ice?

If you have Comcast as a cable provider you can watch Bruins games on-demand in the NESN section. I would assume other cable providers have that option too.

I think NHL Center Ice is a DirecTV package deal, so he doesn’t have comcast.
If you don’t have comcast you’re pretty much screwed. Unless you’re local and DirecTV has some sort of OnDemand system that I’m unaware of….

The only league package that’s directv only is the NFL one. The replays of old games you can get on nhl Gamecenter are pretty good, going on what I got last year.

Am I the only one that thinks the Sens Matt Carkner is a hack?

Ottawa has a long history of overpaid goons. What’s your point?

I’m not sure if a team that has been around since 1992 has a long history of anything. There’s no such thing as an overpaid goon. Those guys earn their money.

In the cap world, there’s such a thing as overpaid everything. Brian Campbell is an overpaid elite defenseman.
Chris Neil is a 2 million a year cap hit until 2013. He’s 30 right now, hasn’t played a full season since 06-07, and hasn’t been able to really score all that much since then. He might be good, but I don’t think he’s worth a 2 million cap hit.
The part about this is he re-signed in 08-09, after just putting up a 6g 14a 199pim year, and his contract year was 3g 7a 149pim.
To compare, Shawn Thornton has a 1/2 million cap hit and had 6g 5a 123pim.

You have to respect a guy that spent that much time in the minors before getting a chance at the NHL level.
