vet school has officially taken the life out of me this semester. i’ve been trying to keep up with, and at least watch a period or two of every game, but commenting and being obsessive just isn’t in the cards right now. it isnt going to get much better when i go into clinics in march.
but if you’d like to do the 350ish pages of reading per exam per week for me, i’d be more than happy to comment all the time, hahaha :)
No, I’m all set with that. I went to 4 yrs of undergrad and 2 yrs of grad school. I am done learning.

what the heck is wrong
with sturm and ryder this year? sturm i was willing to give a free pass for a while because of injury….but really?
Not much landing there but maybe it’ll give them a spark

its kind of the decision of who i like less……whitfield is just boring, but marchand is dynamic but spends too much time in the box. can we just send them both back and clone sobotka?
I like what Sobotka has shown this season. Much more physical than we have seen in the past.

He does have some good tools though, I think when he gets used to level of NHL play he’ll be a good third line checker…..possibly second line guy in years to come. When Lucic and Savard come back he needs to go back to Providence and fine tune his game

Thomas was in position for the save before Stuart pushed, I think it was Cooke, into him. Very unfortunate

B’s look awful in their own zone tonight

its times like these that they miss their “disposable” defensive specialists from last year – axelsson and yelle. you can say what you’d like about their offense, and most of it is true, but they could shut down like nobody’s business. the loss of ward for the more offensively minded morris is also showing up right now
I disagree. Scoring has been the problem this yr not defense. Morris has looked good moving the puck (in my opinion the B’s biggest problem last yr).

in general, scoring has been the problem. i totally agree. but when we are confronted with a huge line from a team – aka the pens malkin/crosby combination, we don’t have enough of an answer for them. morris i am totally not sold on. he moves the puck well, but he still gives me the “wideman scares” from time to time
and that goal just solidified my point
I’m just not sure that Axelsson and Yelle would be the answer.

but i think that getting rid of 3 out of our top 4 penalty killers is going to kill us, in the end. i don’t think we should have kept them all….but i felt like Chiarelli was missing a defensive shutdown presence at the beginning of this year. only 2 of our 6 defensemen (chara and stuart) are truly “defensive” defensemen. at some point (may be now) that’s going to hurt us.
We are fourth in the league in goals against this season (not including tonite) Tim Thomas and the defense has been the only that has kept the B’s in most of the games this year. Our offense is struggling and giving roster spots to players like Axe and Yelle would not help the Offense at all. And also keep in mind Begin and Morris who took spots from Axe and Ward are tied for 2nd on the team in points. Morris has good transition out of the defensive zone and generates offensive (see third goal of this game for reference) Oh and Ward is minus 12 this year so maybe his defensive play was boosted by the B’s team D last year. Begin is good defensively and is part of the biggest surprise line of the B’s this year, and is a big offensive upgrade over Axe and Yelle
by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Nov 14, 2009 9:01 PM EST reply actions
and I believe Yelle is currently unemployed

I’m not really worried about it cause the call went in the B’s favor, but it kinda looked like the ref had his back to the play and just saw Chara go down and called the penalty. It was a trip but how could the ref see it with his back turned?

He took a seat on the bench and didn’t go directly down the tunnel (if there is a tunnel at the bench) or go right to the trainer. So, that’s a good sign. We’ll see.

No need for Chara to be skating that close to Morris. You learn in Squirts to cover the middle and look for the wide skater on plays like that. Morris was in position it was Chara’s job to shut down the passing options. If Chara was playing for my peewee team he woulda been benched for a shift lol
