The more I look at the Thrashers logo the less sense it makes. The bird has teeth, it’s head is separated from the rest of its body, and apparently birds can flex their wings like pro wrestlers.

Then again, I’ve been to Atlanta, and much of the city doesn’t make much sense to me, either.

still looking really empty there

man, it’s a 3 hour trek from where I live to the nearest arenas (Chicago, St. Louis)…kills me any time I see stadiums with empty seats. I’d love it if I could go.

B’s play in St. Louis Monday, but I won’t be able to get off work in time to make the drive down :(

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 7:46 PM EST reply actions

I do get plenty of lower tier options. The Peoria Rivermen (AHL) -are 80 minutes away, and Bloomington Prairie Thunder (IHL) play in the same facility that my adult league plays in 45 minutes away. There are also two nearby college club teams, at the University of Illinois and Illinois State. So I can definitely get my fix from other sources, just the NHL that’s tough to catch a live game for.

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 7:59 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know if i’d be able to live that far away from an NHL team lol, I’m a half hour drive ( no traffic) from the Garden, 45 Min if I take the T. When I went to college in Maine it was 2 hours from the Garden, but I did catch a lot of Portland Pirates games cause the rink was only half hour from my school. It was pretty sweet seeing Getzlaf ,Perry , and Ryan playing in the AHL you could tell they were going to be good

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Nov 19, 2009 7:56 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, AHL games can be fun. College games too. I’m pretty much a sucker for hockey, though.

Ya I like college games too. I try and visit my buddy at Merrimac whenever they play someone good ie: BU BC UNH so on and so forth….my college only had a club team though…we sucked lol. Good thing was nobody has ever heard of my school so when I tell them I started on the hockey team as a freshman they assume I’m pretty good……I’m not

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Nov 19, 2009 8:06 PM EST up reply actions

Merrimack is a great place to see a game. You are always close to the ice and you can always get tickets. They are actually good this year. It’s about time their strategy of recruiting 27 yr olds paid off.

My buddy was an RA of a freshman dorm his sophomore year….he was 19. All freshman dorms are dry so absolutely no alcohol. He was doing his rounds and heard some ruit and shit in the one room so he went in. The room had 5 freshman players from the hockey team….the youngest was 21 oldest 23….needless to say the players were not pleased because they got written up and apparently got in a lot of shit from the coach….you’d think the administration would put 21 year old freshman not in a dry dorm

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Nov 19, 2009 8:16 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah but then they wouldn’t be in a segregated freshman-only dry ghetto.

you are 100% correct I give my buddy shit all the time for being a narc bitch lol, he doesn’t do shit like that anymore. He felt he had to at that point in time cause it was in like his third week of being an RA. He was an authority hungry douche his first semester as an RA

Cool. How hard are Bs tix to get these days? Can’t imagine it’s super tough, though the face value is still pretty high compared to other teams I hear. If I ever move back to the Boston area I’m gonna seriously consider at least a partial season tix packet.

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 8:02 PM EST up reply actions

Season tickets are awesome. Because of how good they were last year ticket prices went up, but there are always guys outside and other second-hand sellers selling tickets below face.

I split seasons with 3 other guys…I get 10 games 2 seats up in 308 for $400….not too bad….I mean there isn’t a bad seat in the entire rink

I sit in 307 for nearly every game, there really isn’t a bad seat in the house….and you can move down unless it’s a packed game.

here’s sports inflation perspective for you: in the mid 90s, me and some buddies (we were finishing high school, starting college) took the T into the city and tried to get mid-week Sox tickets from scalpers. We were able to get some for $35 in rightfield, but had to talk the guy down from $40.

I shudder to think what that would cost us now.

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 8:08 PM EST up reply actions

mid-90s you could walk up on gameday and buy $25 left field grandstand seats

by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Nov 19, 2009 8:09 PM EST up reply actions

According to the first inflation calculator I found with google:

What cost $40 in 1995 would cost $55.99 in 2008.

I’ve always thought they should calculate PP percentage over 2:00 intervals, the way ERA is done over 9 innings, but I guess then you’d not be able to differentiate the 5-3, 5-4, 4-3 type of distinctions.

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

also because a PP interval is shortened after a successful score, so i guess the statisticians have it right :)

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

i guess you could do average time to score, as in the Bruins need to be on the PP for an average of x:xx minutes to put one in?

by jctsai12 on Nov 19, 2009 9:13 PM EST up reply actions

It’d be interesting to follow, but I don’t think it’d replace the current stats they use. I like where you’re going with this though.

by TravBot on Nov 19, 2009 9:14 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, that’s not a bad point. However, a powerplay ends when a goal is scored, so that will make the difference between good and bad PKs significantly different.

OK

time for some crazy Jack statements. 2 shooters per round, minimum of 2 rounds, that’s at least 4 statements…

wow a shootout win. this is rare. gave up a point, but a good team win. This could be a turning point game…mark it down.

Recap will be up in a few. Public Skate will stay open until I post the recap.

To be fair, that puts us at 3-3 in shootouts on the season, if I read the stat bar on the TEEvee correctly

by TravBot on Nov 19, 2009 9:46 PM EST up reply actions

And they still have won every game where they lead after two. Every OT loss has come from either tied or down after 2.

Now that they’ve won, can I bitch about the godawful officiating?

Let's hear it

The cheapass interference call on Recchi, Wheeler going into the net with no call, tons of missed interference calls on Atlanta…I guess it’s my own biases but it seems like the B’s are consistently coming out on the bad side of these things. Continually.

Well that just makes the win that more impressive then doesn't it :-)
