So who should I be pulling for in the Buffalo-Toronto game tonight? I want the Leafs to lose for the picks, but the Sabres to lose for the standings, so I’m confused.

Build Miller’s confidence for the Olympics, get the better pick.

Except it’s nowhere near what the World Cup is. World Cup is during soccer’s off-season and the teams actually get to train together. Not some 2 week pause in their regular schedule.

by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Dec 21, 2009 7:24 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, but it’s the big international tournament that happens every 4 years. They have a tourney every year but it’s always during the NHL playoffs so it’s easy not to care about that.

Plus we haven’t won since 1980 and before that 1960, so that’s tough.

That’s good. The big ice changes everything. That’s why UNH (filthy cheaters) have such a home ice advantage.

I like open hockey so I don’t particularly care. It’s not like it helps them when they go to other rinks.

If not, what about trying Bergeron and Krejci on the same line?

Well Bergeron has played wing in the past hasn’t he? Then again, it wouldn’t be the best idea to take him out of the faceoff circle. So I don’t know… I’m just sick of seeing our centers create scoring chances that go to waste…

http://ballwaysbruinsblog.blogspot.com/

KPD tried to kick around the idea of Bergy playing wing last year. I just don’t get it.

I think he probably played wing…on Sydney Crosby’s line in the 2005 WJHC.

Cursory search shows Rags, Caps, and Flames all have one player with undisclosed injuries, and Bruins with 2. One of those 2 is Wideman, though.

The Flames Cory Sarich is on IR with “undisclosed”

In ref to the goalies seeing a lot of pucks making them play better: Behind the Net (another SBN blog, a great one at that) talks about it and seems to conclude it doesn’t affect goalie performance. Pretty interesting.

Signs of life from Ryder

I’d like to see him put one in the back of the net next period. It actually looked like he hustled on a few plays, what a concept. But that line was definitely buzzing the most in the first…. and I like Bitz a gajillion times better back on the 4th line, love seeing him, Thornton and Sobotka grind it out on the forecheck. Now, as for Savard and Sturm…

http://ballwaysbruinsblog.blogspot.com/

by Killer B's on Dec 21, 2009 8:19 PM EST reply actions

I think Ryder gets a bad rap on the hustling thing. Watch just him some shift. He is almost always pressuring the puck and forechecking.

6th on the team in hits. I think it’s just that sometimes he makes it look easy.

He didn’t look bad in the first at all, I just feel like when he’s slumping in general, he settles for gliding around here and there. He’s a relatively big guy so he should be able to throw his body around—he pinned an Ottawa d-man against the boards nicely on one of their later shifts that period on the forecheck. I just don’t sense that he’s always going full speed.

Lets not lose momentum now that we have a goal…

by ike6116 on Dec 21, 2009 9:31 PM EST reply actions

that really does seem to be their issue, doesn’t it?

by 13_Legion on Dec 21, 2009 9:32 PM EST up reply actions

The refs have been pretty generous to the B’s tonight. Almost the exact opposite of the Philly game.

by Arenacale on Dec 21, 2009 9:32 PM EST reply actions

What a great pass to spring Ryder.

by Ebinsugewa on Dec 21, 2009 9:35 PM EST reply actions

great setup between sturm and savard, no goal but clean passing

by jctsai12 on Dec 21, 2009 9:37 PM EST reply actions

that damn southwest commercial.

The thing that pisses me off about that is that the god damn black dude taps on the glass of the meeting they are trying to avoid as they “sneak by”

WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

by ike6116 on Dec 21, 2009 9:39 PM EST up reply actions

The commericals for the “bags fly free” campaign piss me off much much more.

by 13_Legion on Dec 21, 2009 9:40 PM EST up reply actions

That always bothered me too. What a dick move.

by Ebinsugewa on Dec 21, 2009 9:41 PM EST up reply actions

Ryder is SNAKE BITTEN.

You gotta bury that

by ike6116 on Dec 21, 2009 9:41 PM EST reply actions

NICE play by Wideman

And tough break for Ryder

There’s a picture of him (as Germany’s team captain) next to a Germany jersey in the international section of the hall of fame.

Ever notice that they have “Sturmie’s Troopers” for sick kids or something at the Bruins game? Why not just Sturm Troopers? Feel like they dropped the ball with the Star Wars reference.

by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Dec 21, 2009 9:48 PM EST up reply actions

Probably because of the Nazi Storm Troopers (Sturmabteilung)

Yeah, but the term is from the first world war, is it not?

I have to say, Sturm Troopers would be good to hear announced at games.

by 13_Legion on Dec 21, 2009 9:50 PM EST up reply actions

Me too. They could have gone with something other than “troopers.”

exactly, but if you are you should go for the Star Wars reference with just Sturm

by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Dec 21, 2009 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

The star wars guys were a reference to the nazi soldiers, I think.

They do have a rocket ship on there though, so that’s sweet.

Great 5 cheese pizza. We used to kill our remaining meal points there at the end of the semester. When I’m in Worcester, I try to get over to it.

Our old priest, Fr. Scanlon, is an HC grad, and he went to the women’s basketball games a lot from the stories he told us. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to get down there fo check it out.

Ah the Woo. I missed that god-foresaken city. I spent a lot of time there. A couple of my roommates from college had a place their for a few years.
