SB Nation's Coverage of NHL Winter Classic
SB Nation will be your home for coverage of the NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park on New Year's Day. I will be attending the game on Friday (or Saturday, depending on the weather) and some of the events leading up to the game this week. Joining me will be Travis Hughes from Broad Street Hockey and Randy Booth from Over the Monster.
Wednesday:
Travis and I will be participating in the media skate on Wednesday afternoon and will take the ice at Fenway with members of the media and Bruins and Flyers alumni. Following the skate, there will be a roundtable discussion featuring alumni from the 1970's Bruins and Flyers discussing the rivalry between the two teams during those years.
Thursday:
Both the Bruins and Flyers will be practicing on the ice at Fenway on Thursday. Also, the free Spectator Plaza for fans will be setup outside of Fenway and will be open from 11:00 am to 4:00. I won't be able to get out to the ballpark on Thursday, but Travis is planning on attending both practices. You can also watch the practices for yourself on NHL Network as they will have live coverage of Thursday's events beginning at 11:00 am.
Friday:
Join me us as we ring in the New Year with 37,000 of our closest friends at Fenway Park as the Bruins take on the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2010 NHL Winter Classic at Fenway. Stanley Cup of Chowder will be providing live coverage before, during, and after the game from Fenway Park. I don't know what the setup will be for the media at the game, so I don't have a specific plan for coverage yet. Keep checking this site and Twitter (@cupofchowdah) for updates. This should be a fun event and I am looking forward to providing my readers with coverage of the game from a B's fan perspective.

I’m not sure how it is going to be set-up or how much opportunity I will have to ask questions, but if you think of anything, feel free to post it here.

I’ll try to keep the axelsson-just-won-an-outdoor-game ones to a minimum.

Bobby Orr: Does your inclusion in these festivities signify a return to the public eye, or is this it?

Here’s hoping they will put baileys in the hot chocolates. And that I can hold it.

If you had asked me that last week I might have been able to find out for you over Christmas. I have relatives who work concessions there.
Likely answer: no.

Randy Booth is a cool dude
Good friend of mine and a stand up guy. Still pissed though, the Sox fan gets to check out this great event
it was a really good game until the refs decided to rig it for the home team. Thats been a problem in this league for far too many years now. I could see it coming a mile away…late in the third, home team losing in the big game…make a call to get it tied up, then hand it to the home team in the OT…so predictable in this league, thats why the NHL will always be a second-rate sport in this country…it’s a real insult to the players, the game, and the fans…and it’s been going on for many many years now…
