The Goaless Beantowners.
In my opinion the managing in Boston has went from great to- mediocre within just one short year.
Last season we were the top dogs in the east- come trade deadline we move a youngster like nokelainen who was red hot for steve montador- waste of a prospect, than we made a move to get Mark Recchi, dont get me wrong Recchi contributed in the stretch but montador was useless as he took ice from hunwick who was playin well all season.
however what I'm getting at is I really thought we needed some goal scoring in Boston and if i were the manager and actually i talked about it all year last year with friends was the [possible acquisition of Maxim Afinogenov he sat on buffalo's bench all season and hes not a 50 year old vet like recchi, he proved the season b4 with a playmaker he could put up pts. this was not a move any NHL team made at the deadline but would of been a good one considering the numbers he is puttin up with Atlanta this year. another noteable for a run at the cup was wade Redden, I'm sure the sens woulda loved to get something in return for him. maybe we could of dealt a draft pick for the loan of him..woulda been nicer to see him in the black and gold rather steve montador.
Than this offseason ..we move our most prolific goal scorer in phil Kessel..maybe he didnt wanna sign, maybe he did- however that was our top scorer and I hope like hell we can get a Taylor Hall out of this deal.
I dont know what the Bruins are building for exactly..but at the turn of the deadline last season it was like we wanted to switch our team completely when what was workin got us to where we were in the first place.
We have two great tendies right now..i hope none leave or get dealt..im glad we re-signed Savard..and sturm along with bergeron is healthy however neither will score more than 40 in a season..and in Boston we need TWO high profiled goal scorers.
this is my opinion and i wish i got it to chiarelli 12 months ago.

Moving Nokelainen wasn’t that bad of a deal even if it was for Montador. He had scored 3 points (3 assists) in 33 games with the Bruins before the deal. He did kind of explode in Anaheim scoring 6 points ( 4 goals, 2 assists) in 17 games, but this year in 23 games he has 3 points (2 goals and an assist). When we traded for Montador he had 20 points (4 goals, 16 assists) which made him the third highest scoring defense man for the Bruins at the time of the trade. As good as PC is at GM he can’t see into the future. He had no idea Montador would come to the B’s and do jack shit, but at the time trading a young guy with 3 points for a veteran with 20 was a good deal. Wade Redden who was actually with the Rangers (and under contract at a ridiculous price until 2013/14) had 21 points at the time of the deadline, and would’ve commanded a lot more then a draft pick.
Recchi scored 16 points (10 goals, 6 assists) in 16 games for the B’s last year. Afinogenov scored 20 points (6 goals, 14 assists) in 4 games for the Sabres. There was no reason the B’s would go after a slumping Afinogenov when they could get a red hot Recchi for pretty much nothing (Karsums and Lashoff are nowhere to be found on a crappy club in Tampa Bay) At the deadline you are looking for players to come in and have immediate impact, not take chances on slumping players. Before March 4th 2009 both Racchi and Montador were impact players for their teams and PC thought both would put the B’s over the threshold. One worked out, one didn’t, but he didn’t give up much either way.
Maybe the B’s could have gone after Afinogenov in the offseason, but the cap was too tight. Recchi, however, is still producing fairly well for a guy of his age. He is scoring about half a point a game, ending the season with 41 points….not bad for a 41 year old guy on the third line
KESSEL WASN’T GOING TO SIGN EXCEPT FOR RIDICULOUS MONEY THAT WOULD’VE HANDICAPPED THE TEAM FOR YEARS. end of story we got 2 firsts and a second for a player who wasn’t going to sign….not a bad deal
Basically what I’m saying is the B’s are still good, and in a tight battle for first in the division with Buffalo. They have a good mixed core of young talent and productive veterans both at Defense and Forward, as well as two solid goaltenders all signed for a pretty long time. They are good now, and are set up to be good for years to come. Afinogenov and Redden weren’t the answer for last season’s 2nd round let down. We’ll soon find out, however, if the B’s have what it takes this season.

I think you are way off-base here. You really can’t complain about what Mark Recchi has brought to this team for the money. Kessel wanted out of Boston. He was never going to sign. All you need to do is watch that clip of him from this weekend nervously saying that he never asked to be traded to know that he didn’t want to be a Bruin. Obviously, you aren’t from around him because the only people who call Boston “Beantown” are tourists, so maybe you haven’t been able to follow the day to day goings on of this team.

I’m sure if Chiarelli had received this poorly written drivel 12 months ago he would have made much different decisions.

People have made some pretty ludicrous statements over the years, while some were said out of anger, on the spot not thinking others were said when a person had time to sit down and think about what they were going to say but still be completely off. And you sir seem to be way off. Your information was way off, Nokie was not hot at all when we traded him and Recchi was a steal for us. Kessel was a prima donna who didn’t fit in Boston anymore even while he was here, also he clearly asked to be out. Chiarelli didn’t get that contract extension cause he looks good, he got it cause he knows how to do his job. Thats why he is the GM of the Bruins and you aren’t because you clearly do not understand the workings of the game, along with the vital business side of it.
I’m going to give you the “Benefit of the Doubt” card here and say that you were drunk when you wrote this.

Can you put something like this up before every game? I like these 7 goal games.

K maybe my facts aren’t exactly in tact..and I didnt research I was goin by what I thought.
My point is this..no matter what, you always wanna build for the future. I think the deal for Kessel was Great..and hopefully we get Taylor Hall but at the same time..Kessel has turned the terrible leafs around single handedly so obviously last season was not a fluke.
Mark Recchi, agreed- he has done and is continuing to play good hockey. BUT from my perspective the Bruins needed a TRUE goal scorer going in to the playoffs last year. WE WERE THE TOP DOGS IN THE EAST and with the defensive style coach Julien likes to play I dont think veteran leadership is what was needed.( The Pens won the cup, their veteran leadership consisted of- Gonchar-fedotenko and Guerin)
Looking at this season and how last season finished, were in the same position as last season..now we go after another crafty vet like satan..sure cheap and potential to score goals given the right chemistry i just believe the managing could of done a better job building for this season..and tryin to win a cup last season. cuz really if we won the cup last year,,who cares how we did this season. ( other than season ticket holders)
I would much rather see Chara hoistin the cup..than seeing a good veteran get playoff time n do well
Just my opinion.
