Manny "No Comment" Fernandez
It looks like Kevin Paul Dupont is trying to stir up trouble in the Hub of Hockey. Dupont referred to Manny Fernandez as "Manny 'No Comment' Fernandez" in a post on Boston.com's Bruins Blog this morning. This comes after Fernandez declined to speak to the media following Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flyers.

Kevin Paul Dupont....
is a troublemaker of a writer. He also wanted the Bruins to pursue Brian Burke for the GM job, Lecavelier as a center, and that’s only this season. He knows hockey, to be sure, but the Manny-is-a-locker-room-cancer story is a lot different than a Manny-hates-losing story.
He’s like the Mike Milbury of print.

Dupont is probably the most talented sports writer in Boston and the consumate professional but I think it is unprofessional for a writer to call a guy out like that just because he wouldn’t give him a quote.

Dupont’s prose is too flowery for my taste, and that little bit also jumped out at me as inappropriate. I appreciate that he’s somewhat of a throwback, but I appreciate Fluto’s ability to get across the maximum amount of information while still managing to sound like a buddy sitting two barstools over, and not an AP blurb. While I wouldn’t object to having KPD as my sole mainstream source of Bruins news, I’d much rather read Fluto’s analysis day in and day out than the (blog) rotation of Fluto and KPD, whose styles just don’t mesh. Plus, I like two word reviews of restaurants in other cities.
I wish KPD the best of luck in wrangling comments from the locker room for the next few days.

Gabe,
What’s up? What happened to The Jumbotron? I liked what you were doing over there.

I liked what we were doing too. To be honest, real life caught up with both John and myself, and we were completely caught off-guard by how much time needed to be invested in the blog.
John has an excuse, he’s getting married in September, and he’s setting up for his future. Couldn’t even drag the jerk away from working on a Saturday to come to the Flyers game. I wish he had been there to watch my back when I saw three guys on Causeway St. each in a Lindros, LeClair and Gagne jersey so I could shout out: “Hey look! It’s the Legion of Pussies!” If the third guy had been wearing a Renberg sweater, I might have actually gone through with it instead of just texting the line to John.
As for me, I work six nights a week waiting tables (yay recession!) and am only able to sit down and watch 1-2 games a month. I thought I could do the blog on my own, but I had trouble meeting my standards, and I just figured it’d be better to have have no updates than sporadic crappy ones. Besides, John and I are way too cynical and mean to be able to handle the unbelievable success the B’s are having this year*.
Trying to be a more active commenter, though. I think I can handle that. Belated congrats on the move to The House That Mirtle Compiled!
*=Ryder is still a waste of cap space! ;)
