Bring on the Hurricanes!
Boston, get ready for an influx of pathetic losers wearing Hartford Whalers jerseys. The Carolina Hurricanes pulled off an incredible late game comeback in Game 7 tonight against the New Jersey Devils to move on to the second round. With a 3-2 lead with just 1:20 left to play in the game, the New Jersey Devils looked poised to take Game 7 and the first round series but the Carolina Hurricanes had other plans. The Hurricanes got goals from Jussi Jokinen and Eric Staal 48 seconds apart to win 4-3 in dramatic fashion and advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals where they will face the Bruins.
Series Schedule
| Friday, May 1 | at Boston 7:30 PM ET |
| Sunday, May 3 | at Boston TBD |
| Wednesday, May 6 | at Carolina TBD |
| Friday, May 8 | at Carolina TBD |
| Sunday, May 10 | at Boston TBD |
| Tuesday, May 12 | at Carolina TBD |
| Thursday, May 14 | at Boston TBD |
Times and TV schedule TBD
I will post the complete TV schedule when it is announced. I will also have a complete series preview tomorrow.
Editor's Note: There is nothing inherently wrong with being a Whalers fan or a Hurricanes fan but there is something wrong with supporting a franchise that turned its back on its fans. Before I get a bunch of angry emails, I should probably point out that I am wearing a Binghamton Whalers t-shirt as I am writing this (It was a gift. I assure you, I bleed Black & Gold...and bruise like a peach). Cue the "Brass Bonanza"......

I ask one thing of the Bruins:
DOMINATE THE LIVING HELL OUT OF THIS TEAM.
P.S. Watch out for the Canes’ ability to dive draw calls. Staal’s pretty easy to knock down for a big man, if you know what I mean.

I’m glad to see that you are doing OK and are still alive. Man, there were some brutal endings in that series.

Alive? Yes. OK? Not quite. Vicarious revenge isn’t healthy, I don’t think.
Devils have no one to blame but themselves. Others will blame individuals; but it was truly a team effort to lose the series – a mixture of lost opportunities and crucial moments of a lack of focus. Even Bubba’s recap at CC admits the Canes stole one at the Rock.
Which is all the more reason the Bruins to stomp a mudhole in their collective chests. For principle’s sake.

Can one ever go wrong with Brass Bonanza?
John – likewise glad to see you’re still coherent. That was brutal.
But for someone who didn’t really care who won (me), it was incredible.

Stole one?
Play 60 minutes and you don’t lose games like that.

John Fischer -
Here’s an ice pack for your boo boo. Now shut up.
Having Put aside pathetic whining from Newark, let me say to the Boston fans – I’m looking forward to a great series. You are not the team we wanted to face until someone had taken a few more chunks out of you than the Habs were able to.
Cam Ward is 3-0 in Game 7s. He has never lost a playoff series. The Hurricanes have won 8 of their last 9 playoff series.
This team knows how to win. They’re going to need every ounce of destiny they can summon to beat the Bruins.

Whatever
I guess you don’t have the stones to talk that mess on our site. Diving? Lame excuse. You just need to wake up to the fact that the Devils are the Canes’ bitch in the playoffs.

Excuse? I didn’t say Carolina dived their way to win the series. Their atrocious power play percentage is proof of that. I don’t know why you’re putting words into my comments, but it’s revealing all the same.
I’m just offering a cautionary note to the #1 seed in the East that Carolina is more than just a little lucky at drawing calls. Why would I do that at Canes Country, when it is SCoC that would benefit?

Lucky?
Being in the top three of drawing penalties during the regular season would be called a game style and it is more than luck. Speed and the sheer ability to be disciplined earns you that rank. Aside from that, how could you call a power play atrocious when the Devil’s drew more penalties and only had 1 more PP goal? Guess that makes them equally atrocious. The fact is both teams had PK’s that were equally dominant which in turn extinguished the Power Play units.

wow… I actually respected you for the stuff you brought to CC… but now I see your just another whiner out of t Jersey- the asshole of the US.

From here: "P.S. Watch out for the Canes’ ability to dive draw calls."
Excuse me but I think you owe an apology to the person who called your little “misprint” out.
You were caught and I really didn’t see a lot of whistles in game 7.
Perhaps you could clarify what you meant.

Watch Out for the Canes' ability
Seems to me that the Bruins got most of the calls in Game 2….. Lot of good it did them. Gooooose Eggs.

Keep Dreaming!!
Well once the Devil fans stop whining we can all move onto the second round. People need to recognize we own the Devils and that team in Raleigh is for real. Call it redneck hockey if you must, but there is a Stanley Cup from 2006. Most of that same team is still in place so Boston you better be ready.

I must
It’s redneck hockey. Though I would love to roadtrip down and tailgate pre-game sometime…

If there’s anything we’ve perfected down here, it is tailgating. We do it big and we do it right. Come down and enjoy some Southern hospitality on a grill!

I don’t recall calling it redneck hockey. I’m saving the NASCAR jokes for my series preview.

NASCAR is in Charlotte
Do you make Cheesesteak jokes about Newark?
by DidJussiThat? on Apr 29, 2009 10:23 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
No, cheesesteak is awesome. NASCAR sucks.
by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Apr 29, 2009 10:32 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Point being
Charlotte is not Raleigh. Very different towns, 3.5 hours apart. Redneck jokes probably apply to both, but Raleigh is college basketball and hockey country. NASCAR is in Charlotte.

Screw Carolina and Peter Karmanos
Being from CT I rooted for both the Whale and the Bruins. When Karmanos moved the Whale I wouldn’t even recognize them as a team. It burned even more when they won the cup… god that hurts. Time for some NE karma pay back!!

Some would argue the B’s turned their backs on the fans for a long time, too ;)
Everyone at CC is looking forward to a great series. We can’t wait to read all the stuff here at SCOC. Best of luck.

“Some would argue the B’s turned their backs on the fans for a long time, too ;)”
I can’t argue with that. I am far from a Jacobs apologist.
This should be a fun series. I’m looking forward to see what Canes Country comes up with.

Bruins fans- please come join us for some BigBoss beers and pulled pork!! We love to tailgate and will keep all shit talking to the mandatory minimum, until someone else over steps their boundaries.
There are plenty of your fellow Bostonians around here. Trust me, there are A LOT around here! Apparently it must suck to live in Boston, and everyone from the Northeast seem to be moving down to Raleigh!! I can say that cause I am from NH and PA myself…
I am just glad we dont have to put up with the Pittsburgh fans, yet!! =)
I see this series as Carolina’s chance at payback from that crushing SB defeat a few years ago.

Massachusetts boy here, actually. Though Western Mass, not Eastern.

I've always felt bad for the Whaler fans...
Until some m.f. starts saying things like “Screw Carolina.” I think everyone in Raleigh would agree that the ideal situation would have been for us to get an expansion team. Albeit with Karmanos and company at the helm. They know what their doing and it’s a great franchise. We Caniacs have no recourse but to support the team and franchise we have. If you think we would boycott this franchise because they left Hartford I ask you this. If the Homecoming Queen dumps someone you don’t even know to come ask you to the prom are you gonna slam the door in her face? Y’all Whale fans can hate Karmanos all you want. It’s warranted, but when we see Whale jersey’s at our games we are happy to have you on board. We know it’s always your team too, if you wish, until you get another one and nothing would make me happier than if the NHL awarded Hartford a new franchise.
Love, love, love the Canes!
by Caniac Jack on May 1, 2009 12:53 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Hartford will never get an NHL franchise. It’s surprising that Hartford had an NHL team in the first place. I don’t know how I would react if own of my hometown teams moved, but I probably would not continue to support that team. The closest thing to this is when the Pats were rumored to be moved to St. Louis. All I know is there is no more pathetic sight then seeing Whalers jerseys at the The Garden for B’s-Canes games.
