WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Retaliation is not within the rules.
THAT is bush league.
And I see he will not have the courage of his lack of conviction tomorrow night, because he KNOWS it would be stupid. Maybe he can convince Chara to fall down and roll around again. Maybe he’ll get a summer job in the MLS.
Duh. The glorious and righteous Hurricanes would NEVER do anything wrong.

I can’t speak for other Canes fans, but most of the reasonable talk I’ve seen on the Canes side is that yes, he should have pulled his punch, but Ward also should have seen it coming.
This isn’t a “one side’s perfect, the other’s evil” kind of thing, both made mistakes in how they handled the situation, that’s what happens in the heat of emotion. It wasn’t a good punch, but it also wasn’t a sucker punch. Trying to portray it as one or the other is just silly.
Given the heavy hitting that’s been going on on both sides of this series, I think the best we can all do is let it go.

Walker has been fined, not suspended
http://hurricanes.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NewsPage&articleid=422347
The skinny:
Fine $2500
No suspension
I have my thoughts on the matter. I’d like to hear others’ thoughts on this.

Seriously
all trash-talking aside. The article implies that the two were ready to fight and that Walker just got his gloves off and threw the first real punch.
Watch the tape carefully. Ward is giving Cullen the business. Cullen isn’t allowed to fight. Ward was his teammate and knows this.
Walker comes over and throws a facewash. Ward turns to face him and throws a weak right hand instead of dropping the gloves. Walker said "based on what was said on the ice, I thought I was in an altercation.
Walker threw his gloves down fast and threw a left, which he used to grab Ward by the shoulderpads and then threw a hell of a right.
Ward didn’t get his hands up. He threw a punch at Walker though.
Walker deserved a penalty for being third man in, but that wasn’t a “sucker punch.’”
if that's your definition of "a hell of a right..."
Remind me never to put money down on you in a fight :)
From some angles, it does look pretty severe, I’ll admit that. But if you look at the angle from the close to the goal net (as if you were the goalie and the altercation were happening at about the 10:00 angle in front of you, readily available on youtube), you see it more for what it is — a loose handed shove at the shoulder. The kind you see when a couple of drunk morons in a bar start going at it but don’t know exactly whether or not they want to escalate it or not, so they just keep pushing until the bouncer throws them out and they can save face.
It’s at about 0:06 in this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQxSXhQ-kNo. It’s a shove to the armpit. Not a slug at the head.
I was talking about Walker's punch
That was a pretty damn solid punch. Ward’s was weak.

ah, misunderstood you
Was hoping that didn’t pass for a “hell of a punch” in any real hockey fan’s book! :)
When did this happen?
I’m confused because your version must have been some fight in another game or an alternate reality. Clearly, to non-homers, Walker jumped him, threw a punch while he was mixed up with Cullen, then Ward declined to fight and Walker threw a punch anyways. Was Ward expecting a punch? No! Is that considered a sucker punch? Yes. Until you have a less biased opinion, you should just go away.
Cullen is not allowed to fight
he has post concussion syndrome and even if he did “trash talk Ward”, they were up 4-0 with less than 3 minutes to go. No, the Bruins were going to “take it to the ’Canes” and did. That’s fine. What’s not fine is hitting someone in the head when they are concussion prone.
A. Ward, a former team mate of Cullen knew about Cullen’s issue.

Big Words
Those are big words from a guy like Shawn Thorton. He better just make sure that he is sitting on the bench rather than making threats and watching from the press box! He is no more than an oversized goon who can skate.
So you are saying that he was a major contributing factor last night. Come on, what a joke!
All I’m saying is that I could see a Chara or Ward saying something like that but not a guy who doesnt even know if he is going to be on the ice night in and night out.
He'll be out there again.
Wheeler is probably going to be a healthy scratch again, at the rate he’s going.
The only night Thornton’s been scratched the whole season was one game this series. He’s an “energy-line” defensive forward and a good fighter to boot.

He's signed through next year.

It’s a wonderful website, helps debunk baseless smack.
Baseless Smack. haha Look at the guys career. Hes been up and down from the AHL at best. My point to all of this was the simple fact that if anyone on the B’s was going to be talking smack about next season, i wouldnt think that it would be that guy. The guy isnt a good hockey player. He is like a guy the canes had earlier this season in Wade Brookbank. He is on the team for one reason and that is to fight. Nothing else.

Shawn Thornton can play. He is a lot more than just a goon. Thornton has established himself as an NHL player. You are way off base.
@13_Legion Just because a player is signed next year doesn’t mean he couldn’t need up in the AHL (see: Schaefer, Peter & McLaren, Kyle)
