Bruins force Game 7 after 4-2 win

The Bruins jumped out to early lead and held off the Carolina Hurricanes for a 4-2 win to extend the series to 7 games after battling back for a 3-1 series deficit. The Bruins will host the Hurricanes in Game 7 at The Garden Thursday night.

Mark Recchi spotted the Bruins an early 1-0 lead just 2:01 into the game when he finished off a pass from Patrice Bergeron on a 2 on 1 rush and found the back of the net.

The Bruins struck again just over 3 minutes later when Steve Montador's hard slapper from the point beat Cam Ward after David Krejci fed a nifty little touch pass for Monty out near the blue line.

The Hurricanes got one back early in the second period thanks to a backhander from Fragile Matty Cullen.

Marc Savard put the Bruins up 3-1 8:53 into the second period when Milan Lucic drove hard to the net and dished a perfect pass to Savard at the right circle, who beat Cam Ward with a quick one timer.

Chuck Kobasew extended the Bruins' lead to 4-1 with 1:57 left in the second period. Patrice Bergeron picked up his second helper of the game on the play.

Sergei Samsonov pulled the Hurricanes to within 2 with 12:40 left in the game when he shoveled in a rebound in front.

Notes:

- Marc Savard limped off the ice after a knee to knee collision with Chad LaRose in the third period. He played one more shift, but left the game after that and did not return. Claude Julein said that he should be available for Game 7 on Thursday.

- Tim Thomas turned aside 31 shots.

- Tickets for Game 7 go on sale Wednesday at 11:00 am.

I think he’s saying that Anton played so bad, he could have played for the Bruins…I don’t agree, but…..everyones entitled to their opinion

Credit to the Bruins

Julien got them prepared.

The Bs skated into the collective heads of the ’Canes and schooled them.

It was a good game (to be a GREAT GAME the ’Canes would have had to win).

Looking forward to Game 7 and having it be a GREAT GAME. ;)

Payback

Last night right after Chara’s 1st penalty, a little scrum broke out and both officials were busy breaking it up. At the same time, Jussi was skating back to the bench when one of the Bruins slapped the back of his leg. It wasn’t hard, Jussi didn’t even turn his head.

When I first saw it, I got upset, but when I saw Jussi ignored it I was ok. I wonder if that the payback everyone was talking about lol

Bruins played an excellant game last night, good positional hockey and took advantage of the Canes mistakes. Game 7 is gonna be fun..but why is it starting at 8??

by kcljar on May 13, 2009 8:34 AM EDT reply actions

Nah, that wasn’t payback. Probably just a little “hello.”

No idea why that game starts at 8. Usually that’s the arena or the tv channels. NESN like 7pm starts, not sure about FS-CR. So maybe TSN said they should?

TSN is showing Det/Ana starting at 7, so maybe that’s it.

Yea, our games normally start at 7 like last night, I think the 7:30 starts were due to Versus. I have a love/hate relationship with game 7’s, don’t know if my old heart can take anymore, especially after our last game 7 with 2 goals with less than 2 minutes to beat the Devils……it’s gonna be good though.

It might be so Versus can show the end of the B’s-Cane game after the Red Wings-Ducks game finishes up. That game is at 7:00.

Payback will come in their first meeting of the 09-10 season.

If you’re a fan of “good professional hockey” and thumb your nose at Old time hockey I’d make it a point to miss that one

If I wanted to see guys beat each other.....

in an enclosed “cage”, I’ll turn on UFC.

As I don’t want to watch UFC, I have no desire to see that in a hockey game.

If I wanted to see people skate around in circles in matching outfits, I’d go see Disney on Ice.

Good one.....

Hitting is a major part of hockey and I like that part.

Crap like the old “Broad Street Bullies” style of hockey was “Mayhem on ice”. Why both skating? Or having ice?

Hitting

leads to fights.

Men don’t like to be hit, plain and simple.

Get rid of the instigator penalty and let the players govern themselves.

Aaron Ward got punched in the face for no reason. Someone has to pay and they will.

Sends a message to the league we will not be walked on, you cant bloody our nose and get away with it.

This again?

By your reasoning, it was handled on the ice. Ward was going after Cullen who doesn’t fight and then Walker stopped him. So by your own standards, it was handled right.

As to “hitting leads to fights”, hmmm, when I played rugby, fighting wasn’t worth it. It was always far more satisfying putting your shoulder into the other guy’s ribs and keeping your feet moving then run over him.

Fighting always led to penalties and then it was always a game of “who could get away with the most”. Like I said, if you want to have just fights, why even bother with the ice?

Walker equal to Avery now in Fan Hate

When I hear the words “New York.” The first thing that comes to mind is the Rangers. I am quite certain, that is because we are still in hockey season. Before the signing of Avery, I had no impression/opinion of the Rangers one way or the other. I recall the incident with Avery that tossed him out of Dallas and I remember and posting, I feel sorry for any team hard up enough to sign him. We all know that Avery was signed by the Rangers. We know how he played and now the Coach too is circling down the drain and just needs to be flushed. Do I have compassion for the other members of the Rangers? The people on the payroll who sell the tickets? The Marketing folks and anybody affiliated with the Rangers? Sure I do. Avery has a long track record of being a piece of chit. The good thing, is the men who represent the NHL and do a fine job of it, know all about Avery. So they will protect themselves and each other. It wasn’t even 3 weeks ago, that I posted about being happy we were playing Carolina next. I went as far as posting they would play clean hockey. They would not be like Montreal. I didn’t sit and pace the floors worrying about the cheap shots or sucker punches to my team. Carolina HAD my respect but they don’t any longer. Staal was supposed to be this big scary guy, and a force to be reckoned with. You are kidding me right? The Kids is cagey, and very bright. But he isn’t THAT great. He doesn’t stand out (for me.) His brother is a Ranger. Do I like Staal? No opinion one way or the other. Then there was Cam Ward. A 25 year old Rock Star. Guy is good. Guy will be better and can possibly be an “elite” goalie. If you asked me today about Cam Ward, I would look at you and say who? Pardon me? I don’t remember Cam Ward now. I don’t remember the Hurricanes and where they finished or what they did for this season. They have destroyed it all. They have joined the likes of the Rangers and I think it is shameful that Walker wasn’t dealt with. Do you care what I think? Probably not. But my point is this. One bad apple does spoil the entire bunch. I wouldn’t eat from that tree if it was the only food/fruit I would ever get again. There are only 30 teams in the NHL. How many are going to fall from Grace because of one schmuck? Wake up NHL. You don’t have the following Baseball and Football have. Why is that? I don’t know. I could promote hockey for the rest of my life and you wouldn’t have to pay me a dime. Deal with these A holes and clean this up. Remember, for every one of me, there are hundreds. Most people just walk. I will walk but I will tell you why I left. How many more feel what I do? I don’t think you want to roll the dice on this one.

And what about Ward going after Cullen?

Again more of the same.

Game 5 was chippy, big time chippy.

You had Chara sitting on guys hitting them in the face.

Ward kept going after Cullen AFTER the whistle blew and Walker came out to protect his teammate.

Excuse me for pointing out the obvious but according to the Bruins, Game 5 was “their style of game”.

Now, I know you’re a Bruins fan and all but look at the whole picture before you start taring the ’Canes.

Thanks for coming out. Maybe next year I’ll actually win.

Congrats again to Hub Hockey and the rest of the winners. It was nice to meet some of the other bloggers and a few readers.
