Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Now that the big club has been eliminated, Byron Bitz will head down I-95 to help out the Providence Bruins in the AHL Calder Cup playoffs.

UPDATE: Bitz will not play with Providence due to sore ribs.

here's a question

how do you guys feel about putting Bitz in at Bergeron’s spot and attempting to move him off the books to free up room to try to sign Krecji and Kessel?

Hate it. Bitz is a good energy guy, but he doesn’t give you want Bergy does. I would rather see them trade Kessel while they can still get something of value for him.

What is is it Bergeron gives us? His stats are trending down and he is injury prone, the concussions are going to keep coming and or always be a huge risk? He finished the year with the worst +/- of the 4 Centers.

He’s kind of a sacred cow it seems like but when I ask myself if I had to get rid of Kessel, Krecji or Bergeron he’s the odd man out.

I feel like it’s a bigger gamble to assume he’ll return to the 2005-2006, 2006-2007 form than it is to bet on Kessel and Krecji.

Just thinking it out, curious about how you see it.

You make a solid argument there, but I still think that Bergeron showed signs late in the season that he is returning to form. He does a lot of things that don’t show up on the scoresheet. When he is healthy, he is a complete player.

I think Kessel has more trade value than Bergeron. Teams are willing to overpay for guys that can put the puck in the net.

Bitz is a nice young player, but he isn’t a replacement for Bergeron. One thing that I think that is really overlooked is Bergeron’s ability in the face-off circle. I don’t see Bitz filling that role.

I have a feeling the Bruins brass are going to air on your side I just hope you’re right and I’m wrong.

They would be foolish to get rid of bergeron right now, and I think that know that.
