Chara & Thomas named to Sporting News All-NHL team; Thomas SN's Goalie of the Year
Sporting News named their 2009 All-NHL team as voted on by 39 NHL coaches and executives. Tim Thomas and Zdeno Chara were named to the 6 player team along with Washington's Alex Ovechkin (SN's Player of the Year) and Mike Green, Pittburgh's Evgeni Malkin, and New Jersey's Zach Parise.
Tim Thomas was also named Sporting News Goalie of the Year. The award was voted on by 292 NHL players and Thomas edged out Steve Mason by just 9 votes.

…are from the Eastern conference. I see why each guy was picked, though just on numerical odds alone I would have expected at least one from the West.

not really though, just commenting more on the coincidence of it. With the exception of Chara, everyone selected is a prominent statistical leader for their respective position, but for some reason I fear guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg more than Malkin and Ovechkin when I think of teams I don’t want the Bruins to play. That could be more of a statement about the supporting cast/depth of the Red Wings than anything else though.
