Bruins sign Trent Whitfield to 2-way deal

The Bruins have signed free agent center Trent Whitfield to a 2 year, 2-way contract. The 32 year old centerman, who was originally drafted by the Bruins in 1996 (4th round, 100th overall) has played in 177 NHL games with 11-17-28 totals. He spent the majority of the past three seasons with the Peoria Riverman of the AHL, where he served as captain. He put up 52 points in 80 games last season for Peoria (20-32-52). New England Hockey Fans may remember him from his 6 seasons with the Portland Pirates. Whitfield could see some time with the big club early in the season while Krejci and Kessel are still recovering from surgery.
