Bruins games will be aired on 98.5 FM this season
CBS Radio announced today that they have restructured (read: butchered) their lineup for the Boston market. CBS has shifted Mix 98.5 (the soft rock and easy listening station you get your teeth drilled to) up the dial to 104.1 FM, replacing iconic rock station WBCN. WBCN, which has been a part of the radio landscape in Boston as a rock station since 1968, will go off the air on August 12th. 98.5 FM will become a sports talk station called "The Sports Hub" (as if this town needed to hear more rants from guys like "Frank from Gloucester" and "Curt in the Car").
As part of the re-alignment, Bruins games will now air on 98.5 FM instead of WBZ1030 AM. There has been no word on whether or not Dave Goucher and Bob Beers will continue to call the games. New England Patriots games will also move to 98.5 FM. Fans of Toucher & Rich will be happy to know that the show will still air during morning drive on The Sports Hub. CBS has not announced if the format of the popular morning show will change with the move over to a sports talk station.
This is truly a sad day for Boston radio.

Nice work! I didn’t even think of that. I would have put that as the pic at the top of the post.

‘BCN was an institution in Boston. It’s just a sign of the changing media landscape, I guess. It’s a really sad day for Boston radio and the fact that Mix 98.5 takes its place on the dial at 104.1 just adds salt to the wound. At least T&R are still on the air…for now.
