Arbitration likely for Bruins and Hunwick
Many speculated that the Bruins and defenseman Matt Hunwick would reach a deal before the two sides headed to arbitration on July 24th. Joe Haggerty is now reporting that negotiations between the two sides has come to a standstill. They seem to be about $500,000 apart on salary expectations with the Bruins looking to ink a deal worth between $1 million and $1.3 million per season, while the Hunwick is looking for something in the neighborhood of between $1.5 million and $2 million.

Ummmmm...
I really like what I saw from Matty this year, but asking 1.5 to 2 mil. is a bit obnoxious. They may be pricing themelves out of Boston (as well as 29 other NHL cities) here.
There are plenty of teams that have the space to pick up Hunwick for 1.5-2. He looks like he’s got a bright future.

That might be a bit high, but the Bruins are paying $1.625 million this year for Fragile Ference. If I had to choose between paying Hunwick that amount and paying Andrew Ference, Ference would be packing up his Prius and heading out of town.

fair enough..
…I don’t dislike AF, but I can understand why some may….although he’s a player that has paid his dues. I like Hunwick, but this is a kid that hasnt played a full year as a pro, and he’s trying to get 2 mill. a year?? At this time when the Cap is limited, and proven veterans are taking pay cuts to get on a roster?? Does he share the same agent as Kessel? C’mon.
Matt Hunwick is represent by Peter Fish (former BU goalie).
Phil Kessel is represented by Wade Arnott (brother of Jason Arnott).

Is there a good resource for that sort of information?

NHLPA has a list of all certified player agents http://www.nhlpa.com/Agents/ but I don’t know anywhere to find a complete list of all agents and clients.

I love Hunwick, he’s a bit a small, but he definitely has the potential to be a top puck moving defensive in the league. I would definitely prefer to get rid of Ference if it came to that. Unforunately the Bs don’t have that luxury, they don’t have enough depth at D to get rid of anyone. If you look at the stats He had 9 goals and 27 pts in 53 games. Which almost exactly what Braydon Coburn had when he signed his $1.3 mil/yr contact.
I don’t really know how arbitration works, but I can’t see Hunwick being awarded more then 1.5

I was just using Ference as a reference point. I realize that they are short on D-men.
Braydon Coburn is a beast, who adds a physical element that Hunwick doesn’t have so that might bode well if they use Coburn’s deal as a comparison when/if they go to arbitration.
