KPD: Axelsson close to signing multi-year deal with another NHL team
Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe reported in his weekly Hockey Notes column that veteran winger P.J. Axelsson is close to signing a multi-year contract with another NHL team. Axelsson has spent more time in a black & gold uniform than any other current Bruin. The PK specialist has spent his entire NHL career with the Bruins organization after being drafted in the 7th round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft. He has played 797 regular season games and 54 playoff games over the corse of 11 seasons with the Bruins.

I remember
When Axelsson first started seeing shifts for the Bruins, and I figured he was just another disposable forward we’d see for a season or two. With Neely hanging them up in the mid-90s and the great Kevin Stevens experiment not working out, I was enamored with the idea of the Bruins seeking out another great goal scorer to fill the void and overlooked PJ’s contributions.
But he was there, year after year, doing whatever was asked of him. He’s probably endured more downs than ups given the Bruins performance over the past decade and a half, but his effort was there every night and he became the guy that I loved to see in the lineup. It just seems weird to think that he won’t be there.
Signing with another team :(
Good Luck # 11 and thank you for 11 years of hard work. Whatever team signs this guy, they will reap the benefits of having a steady hard working PK/checking line forward. He will make any team that much better.Very sad to see him go……
