Zajac just signed a deal in New Jersey
“Zajac signed a four-year contract for a total of $15.55 million or an average — and cap hit of — $3,887,500. The new deal pays him $2.75 million in 2009-10, $3.5 million in 2010-11, $4.5 million in 2011-12 and $4.8 million in 2012-13”

Wouldn’t this be about what Kessel might be worth from about 2.68-3.75 a year? Both Players scored about 60 points last season?

Zajac only scored 20 goals and the market is usually higher for goal scorers. Even though they have similar point production, I don’t think Zajac would be a good comparison.

I dunno they both scored 60 points, so then would you say he is worth closer to the David Krecji is then?

I think Kessel and his agent will probably try to compare him to other young goal scorers that got new contracts this year. David Booth who scored 31 goals and had 60 pts got $4.25 million. That would probably be one that they would use as a market comparison. Booth and Kessel aren’t quite the same type of player but looking at production, I think this is the neighborhood that they will aim for (if, not higher). I still think Kessel wants the big pay day and is looking for $5 million plus.
