P.J. Axelsson signs with Swedish team

The man that has spent more time in a black & gold uniform than any current Bruin is departing the Hub of Hockey and returning to where his hockey career began. P.J. Axelsson has signed a 4 year contract with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League. Axelsson played all of his 797 career NHL regular season games with the Bruins, who drafted Axelsson in the 7th round in 1995. Axelsson's 797 games as a Bruin places him 10th on the Bruins' all-time list for games played. Axelsson spent 5 seasons as part of Frolunda's system and also played for the team during the lockout in '04-'05.

Axelsson was the consumate professional and by all accounts a great teammate. He will be missed in the Hub of Hockey, but it was time for him and the Bruins to move on. I wish him nothing but the best of luck as he continues his hockey career in his homeland.

I am sadden to hear that PJ is leaving. I have had many years of enjoyment watching him play with the Bruins. A class act I must say. I wish you the best. Thanks again.
