Pj Axelsson
Why haven't the Bruins resigned him yet. I mean he had 30 points this year he was only -1 and he plays on the PK all time. I would even say he is our best PK forward. He plays against the top forwards on the opposing team most of the time. Your thoughts?
The problem with kessel really isnt money it the fact that he really isn't a two player like claude likes. Agree or Disagree?

I don’t think PJ Axelsson will be in the Bruins’ plans for next season. I just don’t see where he fits considering the cap situation and how many forwards they have under contract. PJ’s game has slipped a bit in the last few years and there are other players on the roster than can play the PK and contribute offensively.
I think Kessel’s contract situation is due to both of the factors you mentioned. If he was more of a complete player, who played a 3 zone game, the Bruins would be more willing to put up the cash for him. He is a great offensive talent, but I think a lot of people in the Bruins organization and fans would like to see him improve in other areas.

check, check, and a Q
Check on PJ – has been great over the past few years, but I think age and depth at the position are going to keep him off the team. I wouldn’t mind being wrong here, but it sounds like the B’s are looking to get Sobotka on the ice in Beantown and that’ll be PJ’s roster spot.
Check on Kessel – Good news for the B’s here is that the major offensive talents are off the FA board, and Phil hasn’t gotten a sniff yet. As we all, and apparently the NHL, seem to agree the offense side is there, it’s the other areas that are going to keep is paycheck down a bit. Perhaps the Kreji level isn’t out of the question here. That would be great news for the B’s.
A Q - Sturm is expected to be 100% healthy for next season right? Quietly discussed loss last year, they were not terrible without him certainly, but they were not the same without him.
Hey Phil – Sturm is an excellent example of how to blend a speed game into an overall game and use it well.

Sturm should be getting back to fully healed any day now, if he isn’t already, if I remember the timetable right.
I don’t believe Axelsson is coming back to Boston, which is a shame, but I’d much prefer he semi-retire to a swedish league than play for some other NHL team. (Have I mentioned that enough on here?)

Axe has been a great Bruin but I don’t see him back, especially with Begin, Bitz, and Recchi in the fold.

I would love to have PJ back, but a 1 +/ rating isn’t too great on a roster that consisted of players in the +20’s.

Most defensive forwards that are on the checking line have negative plus minus numbers due to the fact they are always on the Penalty Kill and alway playing against the other teams best scorers. PJ having a 1 plus minus last season, doesn’t mean anything. It’s actually OK for him and most other strictly defensive forwards. Though he was a plus 11 in ’07’08, overall he is a career 26. PJ was the 18th ranked Swedish Scorer last season. Woohoo!

It autoformats in the comment section so it will strikethrough any text that is between 2 hyphens.
Plus/minus is not calculated when you are on the PK, but you probably meant that a lot of his ice time came on the PK as opposed to the PP or even strength, so he didn’t get as many chances to get +ratings.

I believe if you score a short-handed goal, it counts as a plus and a minus for the other team. However, a PPG against doesn’t count as a minus.

I will be careful to make sure I don’t do that again.
Exactly what I meant. He played on the first line most of the season in ‘07-’08 so his rating was a plus 11. Last season not so much and he still pulled off a neg 1 rating.
Thanks for pointing that out. I really don’t want to confuse anyone.

PJ AND KESSEL
I agree with alot of the post about PJ. PJ has played well and there are so many young kids that there isnt any room for him in boston plus they have recchi.
kessel he is only a one dimessional player, but he can shot the daylight out of that puck. he does have to improve his overall game and like one of the other writers wrote he isnt worth the bigger bucks if he can not play both ends of the ice.

I think there is some confusion about the structure of this site. I am the only writer for the site. All posts that appear on the main section of the site are written by me. The FanPost section is set up for readers to post their own thoughts and the FanShot section is for readers to post links, video, quotes, photos, etc. I occasionally post stuff that doesn’t warrant a full post in these sections as well. I am glad that readers are starting to use these features as well because they have been very under-utilized. It has been great to get some more reader involvement. That being said, I think some new readers are confused as to who is writing these posts.

Yeah, but it doesn’t have to be that way. You can promote stuff to the front page.

I can, but I choose not to. I think if there are too many voices for site, some readers will get confused. I like the setup I have now, where there is somewhat of a definition between reader-generated content and content I produce. That is not to say that if someone wrote something spectatular that I wonuldn’t consider putting it on the front page. In the future I may consider putting reader-generated content on the front page, but for the moment I would like to remain the voice of the site. Some of my readers have wrote some great content and I hope they continue to do so. I am starting a new job next week and may not have the time to produce as much content, so promoting fanposts to the main page might be a good way to keep the site up to date.

I’ll let you run your blog your own way. I don’t tell you what to do with your site, but If you are looking for suggestions, I would suggest actually writing something besides sentences fragments and NHL.com videos.

Dare I say it…….I sure hope he doesn’t sign with Montreal………..

I never really get upset when a guy from one of my favorite teams signs with a rival. I understand that it is a business and that they are just looking for an employer. What I hate is when players constantly talk about how they would never play for Team X no matter how much they paid him and then they end up signing there the next year (like Johnny Damon did).

And no worries here about him signing with a rival, seems that Axelsson will be a career Bruin after all as far as NHL goes. P.J. has signed a four-year deal with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League.
