Bruins look like a team in preseason
Normally, I don't read too much into preseason games as an indicator of how the season is going to go, but one thing jumped out at me in the handful of games I watched this preseason: The Bruins are going to be a team that is willing to stick up for each other. Whether it was Drew Fata challenging Aaron Voros after a high hit on Dennis Wideman, Chuck Kobasew seeking justice after he (incorrectly) perceived that a Colubus Blue Jacket took a run at Tuukka Rask, Milan Lucic forcing Chris Neil to make a blood donation or Steve Begin flying into the middle of scrums throughout the preseason, this team has shown that they are not afraid to drop the gloves and serve up some on-ice justice. This team might not be the "Big Bad Bruins", but they are far from the milquetoast Mike Sullivan B's. You can just call them the Mitch Weaver B's, because they don't take crap from anyone.

What will it take
A lot of times when you hear someone make like they are going to praise the Bruins for their grit they preface it with “They aren’t the big bad bruins… but” What will it take for the Bruins to be able to retake that nick name? Thornton and Lucic will fight anyone and is there anyone on the ice bigger than Z? They are Big, They are Badass and last time I checked they are still the Bruins, so F it, Big Bad Bruins seems like it fits just fine.

Let me know when their fights start spilling out under the stands, they start challenging entire benches, or beating fans with their own penny loafers. Then they can regain the nickname.

That will never again happen, players have too much to lose now.
What do you think would happen in 2009 if players got into the stands?
And as I recall Lucic has been known to taunt a bench or two.
That’s exactly my point, it can’t happen in today’s NHL.

c’mon………….just because its not the mid 70’s and the glass isn’t a foot and a half tall anymore doesn’t mean the bruins can’t have the nickname back
Counterpoint: “It’s called Bruins”

If last season’s B’s-Caps game are any indication, Thursday night will be far from a blow out.
