Bruins in Jersey to take on the Devils

The Bruins had a week of rest to let the jet lag wear off after splitting their season-opening series with the Phoenix Coyotes in Prague last weekend. Now, the B's are back on American soil and in Newark, New Jersey for a match-up with the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center (7:00 NESN, 98.5 The Sports Hub).

At the other end of the ice (and the spectrum), the highly-touted Devils have stumbled out of the gate, going just 1-3-1 in their first five games, while giving away at least a point in all five contests. While the Bruins has enjoyed a week off, New Jersey will play their sixth game in nine days when the take the ice tonight. The Devils were in action last night and fell to the Colorado Avalanche 3-2.

Notes:

- According to Fluto Shinzawa, the Bruins will start Tim Thomas in goal today. The veteran netminder shutout the Phoenix Coyotes 3-0 last Sunday.

- The Devils did not hold a morning skate today after playing a game against the Colorado Avalanche last night. Matthew Ventolo of In Lou We Trust thinks that Johan Hedberg could get a rare start tonight.

- Due to injuries and salary cap issues, the Devils were forced to play with an incomplete lineup in two games this week. The Devils iced 15 skaters in their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night and 16 skaters on Wednesday night vs. the Buffalo Sabres.

- Comcast Sports Net New England's Joe Haggerty reports that Brad Marchand is very excited about his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Snuggie.

- Covers.com has the Bruins as +124 underdogs in tonight's game.

- The Devils have been out-scored 17-9 over their first 5 games.

- The Public Skate (open thread) starts at 6:30 PM ET right here at Stanley Cup of Chowder.
