Bs coach not getting the job done
Am I the only one that feels like Claude Julien is just not going to take this team anywhere? This team is playing very mediocre hockey and there is better talent than that. After last years historic collapse against the Flyers he should have been FIRED! Look at the Flyers this year just dominating the Eastern Conference with a Head Coach in Peter Laviolette that has led a team (Carolina) to a Stanley Cup Championship. He was hired in mid-season last year and the Bruins should have had the foresight to make that hire. This is a coach that was let go by the Bruins organization many years ago and clearly a mistake. This team has very often this season come out flat and seemingly unprepared in many games falling behind early. In the famous words of Tom McVee catchup hockey is LOSING hockey. Even last night the Bs were lucky to hold on after taking a 3-0 lead as they were completely outplayed in the 2nd and especially the 3rd period. This team clearly needs a major shakeup and it need not be on the player roster. I don't know what playoff tested coaches may be available but if this team is going to take the next step there needs to be a change. Otherwise all we will get as Bs fans is another early playoff exit. The GM has foolishly extended this coach's contract for another three years and that will probably be the reason he keeps this job. While on the subject of the GM one can only wonder out loud WHY he would have done that when this coach has proven HE CAN'T GET THE JOB DONE IN THE PLAYOFFS! The GM has also given out ridiculous contracts to some players as well... Most recently Chara and Bergeron. Both are good players to be sure but those contracts are totally out of line and surely neither player would have received those contracts in free agency. Why are you paying your 3rd line center 5 mil per season?? The GM has done some good things as well by making excellent trades like the Kessel and Horton deals so credit should be given for that but this coach HAS TO GO before this is another lost season.

Agreed
After seeing his track record, im surprised as well. The guy can handle a team and make some good trades like something in the management offices but I dont see him as the head coach that Boston needs. During the 08-09 season we were favorites for the cup but didnt have the toughness to outlast carolina. Then last year, with the injuries, we couldnt get one more win to beat philly. I wish we had a 24/7 series to see what goes on with the team.
Thanks!
I appreciate the comment. This team needs to take on the personality of Cam Neely when he played. One of my all time favorite Bruins, obviously an all time great player and Hall of Famer. This team needs to play with more of a mean streak a little bit nasty… Not dirty but nasty and clean. Did you see last week against Buffalo when the coach made Tyler Seguin a healthy scratch for Dan Paille! Are you kidding me! What a joke! I know the kid isn’t lighting the league on fire yet but I think he has a MUCH better chance of scoring a goal than Paille. The Bs lost that game 3-2 so maybe the kid could have made a difference. Ooops here we go again as the Bruins fall behind early this time at home against the Ducks… Same old story… If Tim Thomas wasn’t playing out of his mind this season the Bs would be a .500 team.
Claude is certainly on a short leash at this point, but who would you replace him with? People have been throwing around Milbury as a possible replacement, but he hasn’t coached in over a decade. What about Ken Hitchcock? He’s a defensive-minded guy and has a Cup on his resume.
An escalator can never break. It can only become stairs.
chiarelli has been quoted as saying that claude is safe for this season, which is the right move… this is a guy that has won two playoff series in boston, which is two more than we have had in like the last decade or something obnoxious… claude is a good coach with a good season. they are in a bit of a slump right now, absoloutely, most of which is not the coaches fault… give him until this season is over, then re evaluate how safe his job is

Which was still an improvement over the ten or so years prior.

from bad to mediocre
That is where Claude Julien has taken the Bruins and he does deserve credit for that. Claude is not a bad coach but not a championship caliber one either. After watching this team fall in the second round of the playoffs the last two seasons is all I need to see that he just can’t get this team to the next level. Especially after last years historic collapse. A truly capable coach should be able to will and inspire his team to one more victory in that situation. I have been a Bruins fan since the early 70s and mediocre is not what I want to settle for. To read some of these comments where it seems that some fans are satisfied with just winning a first round playoff series then getting bounced in the second round is puzzling to me. I LOVE the Bruins and I want nothing more than to see them win the Stanley Cup!!! After enjoying all three of our other beloved Boston major sports teams win Championship(s) in the last decade how much longer to Bruins fans need to wait?
I understand your points
But pinning the historic collapse in the playoffs last year on Claude and calling him a bad coach because of it seems a little out there, considering the last team to do that was the Yankees…under Joe Torre…one of the best managers of all time. I agree though, that Claude is on the hot seat for the remainder of this season, but I do not believe he will be fired before season’s end unless this team continues to play losing hockey. Hopefully the game against Atlanta lit a spark that will motivate both the team and Claude, showing them what an inspired and hard-fought hockey game can lead to…wins.
it is true
that coach Julien will probably not be fired this season. The team has now won three straight games and has played a bit better in doing it. Montreal has hit a slump helping the Bruins get into first place in the division and that vaults them up to 3rd in the conference standings. That all said if this season ends in playoff disappointment I really think that Cam needs to make a change with the coach. I really think that the style of play is too conservative and this team does not generate enough quality offense. I think a more aggressive offensive minded approach would be better. How about designing some plays where you get Seguin the puck so he can use his speed through center ice and into the offensive zone instead of ALWAYS playing dump and chase.
