Bruins assign Adam McQuaid to Providence
The Bruins announced today that they have sent Adam McQuaid back down to Providence. A lot of teams around the NHL are sending some of their younger players with 2-way contracts down to their AHL affiliates so they can get some playing time during the NHL's Olympic break. McQuaid has not looked out of place when call upon to fill in on the Bruins' blue line this season. McQuaid has appeared in 15 games for the big club this season. He notched his first NHL goal last Sunday in the Bruins' 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens. He has also shown that he is not afraid to drop the gloves. He has recorded 3 fighting majors, including last night's beat-down of Victor Oreskovich.
He has come a long way in the past 2 seasons....The Bruins equipment staff even knows his name now.

McQuaid will allow for more flexibility on the Blue Line for years to come
At this point, I would think that B’s Nation would be pretty happy with what we have at the Blue Line. We’ve seen 4 “good” games in a row from Wideman. By “good” I mean, his usualy below average defence mixed with his above average offense.
So Chara, McQuaid, Boychuck, Stuart, Wideman, Ference, and Hunwick (who I agree with Jack Edwards is looking better and better) is a reasonably solid D corps….of course, all of that hinges on how Wideman plays.
BTW, I think that I said it on a previous thread, but much love goes to Ference for his steadying play since his return. I think he means more to the D than I gave him credit for.

I think you are right. I’m usually the first guy to rip on Ference, but they have looked much better in their own end of the rink since his return.

I'm also wondering whether he's that leader on D that they've missed too.
Without Ward, this D looked shaky, especially when Ference was out.
Now, if they can only get Stuart back…..
