Does Peter Chiarelli have a trade already in place?
Boston Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli was on 98.5 The Sports Hub today for his weekly interview with Felger and Massarotti. Chiarelli discussed the Olympics, dodged the age-old "Crosby or Ovechkin" question, and most importantly, discussed the upcoming NHL trade deadline.
"Tuesday things started to pick up and I suspect you'll see some deals that have already been cooked. You'll see them done like the morning of the first. We're in on a couple and I like our chances... I always want improve this team...We have identified a couple areas where we feel we can improve it right now and if the right deal is there (and I think we are in on a couple that are close) that we will do them."
- Peter Chiarelli
When asked if he had deals in place, Chiarelli plead the fifth:
"I'll abstain"
There were rumors last week that the Bruins were in the market for a defenseman and Dan Hamhuis of the Nashville Predators was a name that was mentioned several times. I also think that the Bruins will try to bring in a winger with some scoring punch. Ray Whitney's name has been brought up a lot in the past few months as a possibility. I don't think that Chiarelli is going make any earth-shattering deals at the deadline, however he will make a handful of smaller moves to improve this hockey team. Stay tuned.
Just a heads up: Since I am a huge hockey nerd, I am taking the day off from work on deadline day (Wednesday) to monitor all the moves in real-time. Stanley Cup of Chowder will be your hub for the NHL trade deadline. I plan on doing the 2nd Annual Deadline Day Public Skate (open thread) and will also have full posts on all the Bruins deals.

If the trade goes down, no need to get excited about something that’s basically a bunch of hot air right now.

Did you read the article, though? Lots of fluff, he’s really going to be the odd man out with better and cheaper players in the pipeline.

I hope one of the deals involves Wideman, some gatorade bottles, 2 rolls of hockey tape, and a traffic cone.
I’d trade wideman before the rolls of tape. Maybe the cone too

You could argue that Wideman has been a traffic cone this season.
