Peter Chiarelli puts an end to Kovalchuk rumors

Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli put an end to the rumors that the Bruins are in the mix to to trade for Ilya Kovalchuk. Chiarelli appeared on Felger & Massarotti on 98.5 The Sports Hub this afternoon and implied that the Bruins will not actively pursue Kovalchuk.

"I continue to make calls, I know our fans are clamoring for me to do something....I don't want to make a deal just for the sake of making a deal. There's 1 player that everybody is talking about...and I'm not gonna do it"

- GM Peter Chiarelli via the Twitter page of Marc Bertrand of The Sports Hub

As much as Kovalchuk would light up the ice on Savard’s wing, I don’t think he would be a good fit under Julien’s system. And with the B’s cap space mostly eaten up, they would have to trade an awful lot for him and have no options for some time if they offered him a contract.

I would’ve liked to see Kovy lighting the lamp for you guys instead of the fans in the land of Guidos, but at least you don’t have to worry about the whole “next year” bullshit that will be the re-signing of Kovy.

Occam's Razor keeps the cutting clean.
