Gold Out The Garden
A nationally televised Sunday matinee featuring two Original Six teams separated by just 3 points in a battle for the 8th playoff spot in the Eastern Conference seems like a scalper's wet dream, but I have a feeling there will be more fans selling than buying on Causeway on Sunday afternoon when the New York Rangers come to town.
The fans have voiced their displeasure with this team on sports radio, message boards, and water coolers across New England, but there is only one place where the Bruins organization will listen: in their wallet. I am encouraging season ticket holders and other fans with tickets to Sunday's game to stay home. Send a message to the Bruins organization by letting this heartless team play in front of a seas of empty gold seats. GOLD OUT THE GARDEN!

You obviously wouldn’t understand because you aren’t a Bruins fan, but thank you for shamelessly pimping your own work on my site.

hmm
Trying again.
I think I may understand more than you think. I’ve been through more relocation rumors than you can shake a stick at, my GM being just as inactive, and awful attendance problems. I just don’t think your solution is a good one. We can agree to disagree.
Sorry if posting the link was upsetting; feel free to delete it. I chose to do that instead of write out a similar lengthy comment.

There’s a lot I disagree with in this statement, but I’m going to go with…
The Bruins aren’t the only team that’s ever had a disappointing year, and not even the only one this year. Most of those fans don’t turn their back on the team. Obviously the bandwagon fans will. Have you been reading Toronto sports media? They advocate this same thing.
The team is a bummer this year. I’ll buy your tickets for Sunday if you’re really not going.

* The team is on an emotional low right now. How much lower would they get if they take the ice for a nationally televised game, to have no fans to cheer them on?
This isn’t a high school pep rally. It is the NHL. Will we give the Bruins a participation trophy at the end of the season at their end of the season pizza party?
* The front office and coaching staff may well need a message sent. But refusing to support the team on the ice shows misguidance. Try something more to the point, like a Fire Peter Chiarelli rally, similar to Rangers fans a couple of weeks ago.
So, you are cool with a guy losing his job and his livelihood, but you draw the line at one the the nation’s wealthiest individuals missing out on a night of concession sales?
* As upset as fans are; all is nowhere near lost— the Bruins hold the final playoff spot by three points.
You and I both know the Bruins have no shot at winning a playoff series. I’d rather see them get a better draft pick

Yeah, they actually do get a pizza party. Or something like that.
the concession sales are relatively immaterial. If not delaware north, then its aramark or other distributor. plus, you’re not advocating “attend and don’t buy anything.” you’re advocating
Send a message to the Bruins organization by letting this heartless team play in front of a seas of empty gold seats.Which is a smidge different.
We all knew Carolina wasn’t winning anything either last year, but we also know how that turned out. The Bruins tend to play better on the road anyhow, so you know that they might actually play better with no fans/rangers fans only.

Delaware North (Jacobs’ company) owns the building and the concessions. The tickets have already been sold, so that’s a sunk cost for the fans. If they aren’t at the game they can’t buy anything.
by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Mar 19, 2010 8:56 PM EDT up reply actions
DNC owning the team, the building, and the concessions is one of the primary reasons the B’s are so profitable, win or lose. Low overhead, and every dollar that goes into that arena goes into Jacobs’ pocket. This team could probably play to 7,000 a night and still break even (admittedly, I have no source for that, just a hunch). No wonder there’s no urgency to put together a Cup winning team. In a market of millions, you only need to troll up a few thousand a night to make some money, so why put in any more effort?
A mostly empty Garden on Sunday doesn’t prove a whole lot. What will is the season ticket renewals, and the individual game sales next year. If this once and for all proves that the fans view the Bruins as an eternally lost cause and that they’re not going to fund it by buying tickets, then maybe things will change. Because if they go back to 2006-07 attendance numbers now, then nothing short of a Cup is going to bring the fans back.
(That being said, I will still fund the Bruins through my irrational purchasing of merchandise. I can’t help it, look at how epic this cap is.)
First, sick hat.
Second, how many season-ticket-holders do you know that aren’t renewing? My out-of-my-ass theory (and we’re already in that realm so bear with me) is that the scalpers aren’t renewing, and some businesses looking to cut back on costs aren’t.

Honestly, I don’t know any STHs, so I can’t say that I know any who aren’t renewing. But, logic would dictate that if people are truly as p’d off at the organization as they are, they aren’t going to spend money on it anymore. I don’t think it’s anywhere near a total wash, some people are just diehard hockey fans who would spend the money to watch the ECHL if that was all that was around, but I think (and hope, I’d like to get some cheaper individual and mini-plan tickets) that some legit STHs are seriously reconsidering their investment.
But yeah, scalpers and businesses will be cutting back too, definitely (this ain’t Toronto).
For what it’s worth. I already renewed and pretty much everyone I’ve talked to has renewed already.

I’ve renewed….last time my family didn’t renew their season tickets for a team that was sucking…well…that team went on to win 3 Super Bowls not too long after…not making that mistake again. Plus no matter how the B’s perform they are MY team and hockey is MY sport…got hockey in my veins. One shitty season isn’t going to make me lose all hope…I’m a STH for life….(or until Bettman destroys the league and there is no more NHL or Bruins)

I’m right there with you, dude. This team can make noise in a year or two, depending on draftees and free agents (and whether Mark Recchi stays another year). But there’s hope for next year, so I renewed. Also I’m probably going to keep them for as long as it takes to get a champion…maybe. It depends if they decide to suck consistently.

I am aware that Jacobs own the building, the team, and the concessions, and gets rent for the celtics.
I think the fact that I only recently came into hockey 4 or 5 years ago gives me a different view on this, as I don’t take every year removed from winning the cup as a personal affront. I’m not saying you do, but some fans sure do act like it.
“Mr Jacobs why don’t you just buy us a cup already” seems to be the feeling of some fans and it’s plainly unrealistic now that there’s a cap. Admittedly a cap that Jacobs pushed for, but it’s made hockey recently pretty interesting.
Do I come off as equally naive as these fans? I hope not but you might think otherwise, which is your right.

I could argue more, but I’m going to leave it here. Four of five Predator playoff teams haven’t had a snowball’s chance in hell of winning a series, but do I want them to not make it? Hell and no. I don’t want to debate someone who would rather his team pick higher than make the playoffs.

In Nashville, if the Predators make the playoffs it will bring in more fans. In Boston, if the Bruins get swept in the first round, it will turn off even more fans because it will be “same old Bruins”.

I don’t think it would in this case. The team already sent a message that this year is a wash when they didn’t do anything at the deadline. Most fans just want this year to be over.

Spread the word! I like it
I feel just as upset as you and the rest of the Bruins fanbase today. I was all jacked up to watch last nights game, feeling as if it would be a turning point in the season. I was ready to let all of the frustrations from the rest of the year go and use it as a rallying cry as the Bruins headed towards the playoffs. But after last nights crap showing my head only hurts. Frustration fills me to say the least and as a fan I agree a message needs to be sent loud and clear to managment. Your post earlier on Julien and others hit the nail right on the head and it appears their lack of passion seems to have trickled down to the team. Do I wanna drop my green to watch a team filled with grey? Nope. Gold out the garden fans….gold it out

Been doing that for well over a decade in New York.
And everyone, please ignore this post – show up, root for your team, help them beat the Rangers. Please. Better a quick merciful death of our season then this dragged out, ‘still have a chance despite the fact that we suuuuuuuuuuuck’ nonsense that has been going on.

They arent Edmonton bad....
I would give a left nut right now to even be in 20miles of a Bruins game. So they are 25 games above .500. They also aren’t 1 game under. They are playing average with no real scoring threat. Last night was a disgrace, but thats hockey. How do you think the Flyers fans felt when we poned them 5-2 a week ago. Support the team, they will get it done. After all, it could be worse.

seriously guys?? listen i was just as disappointed as anyone last night. it started out great, but then i was let down. this team has a lot of problems yeah, their not gonna win a playoff series this year, much less a cup. this is obvious. but for a team to not have the success we feel entitled to, and we call for the firing of the coach and gm, one year removed from a season where we came within a point of the second presidents trophy in team history?? You guys sound like a bunch of whiney high school girls that got stood up to prom. you guys will support this team, you know it as well as i do. deal with it guys, weve been doing it for long enough

I'm with ya!!!
I don’t want to go but it’s my nephew’s birthday present. So reluctantly I’ll be there but I’m bringing the paper bag. I’m don’t want to be mistaken as a Bruins supporter. When I see this team give it’s heart, then I will. As a season ticket holder I am thoroughly disgusted with this team as a whole. There are a few exceptions of Bruins that care but top down this organization really screwed up what was a good thing. Chiarelli messed up big time with his moves after last year thus destroying the accountability the players had for each other in that locker room (see Axellson, Ward, Hnidy). At this point I’m don’t know if I want PC handling this upcoming draft either. As far as Julien goes, he’s obviously spineless. I can’t believe he let’s some of these deadbeats continue to get ice (see Wide-of the net-man, coat tail Ryder). Julien has been hiding ever since he called out #6 and we can’t have that kind of fairy running the bench of the Boston Bruins. To think he could rattle off those excuses with the 1970 B’s still in the building. WTF…
Then I get to see a win in person! For the first time in longer than I’d like. But I wouldn’t put money on it or anything.

The product has become boring. I’ve said this before. I can watch losing hockey, just show me effort. No effort? No watchy.
FWIW, the STH that I know is 50/50 on not renewing. 1st row, balcony, Section 317 (facing the benches) Best seats in the hizzous if you ask me. He’s pissed.
Which B's team is this?

I don’t think anyone has turned on them. I know I haven’t, it’s just frustrating to see them just seem to not care. At least a Leaf’s fan can say those guys go out and try every night. They still suck but they try and you can see the effort. The Bruins go out there and just skate around and fuck the dog.
Sorry to break ranks....
But I’m still going. I bought this game extra a number of months ago. I have two friends from Russia that have never seen NHL hockey before and are looking forward to it.
Just have to hope it’s a decent game.
“Gold out the Garden.” What a joke. That’s like all the college kids who tried to hurt the gas companies by not buying gas on “x” day of the month. Tickets are already bought people.
