2010 Stanley Cup of Chowder NHL Trade Deadline Public Skate

It's that time of year again. The day that every puckhead in North America has circled on their calender. It's Deadline Day! Stanley Cup of Chowder and SB Nation Hockey has you covered for all your NHL Trade Deadline needs. Since I am a huge hockey nerd, I decided to take the day off to follow the events of the day. I will be tuned into TSN's coverage and will be scouring the Internet and Twitter to find out what is going on past the 3 o'clock deadline right through until Peter Chiarelli's press conference. I will post the trades here on the open thread as they are announced and if the Bruins make a move, I will post a reaction to the deal shortly after it goes down. Feel free to chime in with your opinions on the deals as they happen. Don't act like you are going to be productive today anyways. For trade news from across SB Nation Hockey, check out the SB Nation NHL Trade Deadline Hub:

If this thread has as much discussion as I hope for it will make things a lot easier to follow.

That said, I liked Metropolit too. He was always hustling.

It looks like Zack Morris’ dad is going back Phoenix for a 4th rounder. Laying the ground work for another deal

by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Mar 3, 2010 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

Oh good, a fourth-rounder. If we get Ward back I will laugh at work and people will look at me funny.

I donno B’s seem pretty stacked at Center already…unless they get Mueller and try to flip him…that could work.

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Mar 3, 2010 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

i doubt it will be mueller now. TSN said 4th round pick. i’m guessing that clears things up for another trade with someone else

by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Mar 3, 2010 10:40 AM EST up reply actions

lol I just hope the other trade doesn’t fall through, cuz trading Morris for just a 2011 (TSN) 4th would be brutal…he’s been very solid all year

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Mar 3, 2010 10:43 AM EST up reply actions

I really just don’t understand how Sutton, Leopold, and Wallin get 2nd’s, and Morris gets a 4th. Morris is outplaying all three of those guys this season

So which would the B’s be going for now, a forward or a d-man?

by Arenacale on Mar 3, 2010 11:20 AM EST reply actions

i think its corvo/whitney……they have holes to fill in both areas

by timmorrison23 on Mar 3, 2010 11:22 AM EST up reply actions

Cam Neely, per bruins.com:

“I can’t really mention too much right now, but things are shaping up for us,” said the VP. “We know what we have to do. We’ve got to try and help on the back end and a little bit up front, so I know Pete is working hard at trying to get something done. We’ll see where it takes us, but…my feeling is that we should be able to do something.”

both

corvo and whitney would be a good haul i think for us

by Levance on Mar 3, 2010 11:24 AM EST up reply actions

also know boyes is available

Wideman for Boyes again, lets correct that mistake

by Levance on Mar 3, 2010 11:25 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah that was a horrible trade going out.

by Eric B on Mar 3, 2010 1:40 PM EST up reply actions

I think a D-man is more important. Unless we get Whitney, which I doubt, there’s not many forwards that are going to be a big help to us, unless we buy low on someone like Mueller or Boyes and hope they return to form. (BTW, I second the poster who wanted to revisit the Wideman/Boyes deal…both guys could desperately use a change of scenery.)

I think we’re getting Kaberle, personally. I have no source on this, but they’ve wanted him for what seems like forever and just cleared some cap space in the Morris dump. Something like the Leafs’ second rounder back plus a prospect.

by Phunwin on Mar 3, 2010 11:29 AM EST up reply actions

I’m not sure if you’ve seen it, but the Bruins are the worst team in the NHL at scoring goals. Let’s resurrect hextall, he can score goals.

by Cornelius Hardenbergh on Mar 3, 2010 11:34 AM EST reply actions

yeah Seidenberg is solid

he will help the blueline and i don’t think Bitz will ever get the top 6 time here in Boston but sad to see him go

sorry

keep forgetting to hit reply

by Levance on Mar 3, 2010 11:38 AM EST up reply actions

this is a good deal. Seidenberg is a good d-man

by timmorrison23 on Mar 3, 2010 11:39 AM EST reply actions

im liking what im reading on Bartowski

seems to be a big shot from the point that plays physical, needs to improve skating only 21 years old so time to improve with the way we have developed dman he should be atleast a solid depth dman

He is an Ohio State buckeye I saw him play in November and he is solid defenseman. [<a href=“http://www.collegehockeynews.com/players/?pd=25679” stats]

by Eric B on Mar 3, 2010 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

6th on the team in points for Ohio State…Number 1 point producing D-Man…blocks a lot of shots…seems like a pretty good prospect…looks like the B’s are stocking up on Defensive prospects this deadline

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Mar 3, 2010 11:52 AM EST up reply actions

This is fine, in a vacuum, but there’s still something frustrating about this. We could have signed Seidenberg for nothing in the offseason, and signed Morris instead, for an extra million bucks.

by Phunwin on Mar 3, 2010 11:46 AM EST up reply actions

Don’t forget trading Ward to Carolina for a guy we then had to buy out.

Join me on the Hockey Blog Adventure! (or Twitter.) GO BRUINS! (and Wild!)

by Cornelius Hardenbergh on Mar 3, 2010 11:47 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah….we traded Ward to Carolina for a 4th and Eaves so we could sign Morris, instead of Seidenberg, then bought out Eaves and signed Morris, then traded Morris for a 4th and turned around and traded a 2nd for Seidenberg. It’s hard to call that one a “win” in the long-term planning department.

by Phunwin on Mar 3, 2010 11:53 AM EST up reply actions

So, in essence:

Ward and a 2nd
for
2 4ths, Eaves Buyout cap hit, Seidenberg

Join me on the Hockey Blog Adventure! (or Twitter.) GO BRUINS! (and Wild!)

by Cornelius Hardenbergh on Mar 3, 2010 12:05 PM EST up reply actions

Plus 50-something games of Derek Morris, yes.

If Seidenberg signs long-term, for reasonable money, then maybe it’s all worth it, since he’s a better overall defenseman than Morris. But Seidenberg’s not the puck-mover Morris is. The B’s needed more offense from their D to begin with.

by Phunwin on Mar 3, 2010 12:19 PM EST up reply actions

I would call that a head scrather.

by Eric B on Mar 3, 2010 1:44 PM EST up reply actions

Raffi torres

talks heating up between CBJ and Bos regarding him

I like him alot and think he would be a great replacement for Bitz

by Levance on Mar 3, 2010 12:18 PM EST reply actions

I heard Columbus wants a first for him. Torres is on line to have the same stats as Sturm this year….and I don’t think Sturm would fetch us a 1st. Torres would be nice, but not for a 1st….I’m not really sold on Torres…course, then again, I don’t see him play that much so I could be wrong.

by Dangles-McDonnybrook on Mar 3, 2010 12:29 PM EST up reply actions

No reason to give up a first for a rental this year.

Join me on the Hockey Blog Adventure! (or Twitter.) GO BRUINS! (and Wild!)

by Cornelius Hardenbergh on Mar 3, 2010 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Ditto that. I don’t get the Torres love. He’s never had more than 27 goals or 41 points, despite playing a big chunk of his career on some pretty freewheeling teams. I think people still think of him as a prospect with some upside, but he’s 28 and in his 8th NHL season; it’s time to accept that he is what he is.

Torres epitomizes why I’m more interested in getting Kaberle than any of the forwards out there. For the most part, they aren’t so much better than what we have that it’s worth giving up a plum draft pick or prospect.

by Phunwin on Mar 3, 2010 12:36 PM EST up reply actions

I think the B's are still in on

Hamhuis and poking tires at Kaberle aswell.

by Levance on Mar 3, 2010 12:26 PM EST reply actions

Please, please get Kaberle. I’d love to end up with him at the end of the day.

BTW, Bob McKenzie says our old pal Scott Walker is headed to Washington.

I think you’re probably right, but that Leafs’ 2nd rounder will be right at the end of round 1. Give them that pick back, plus a good prospect (Alexandrov?), and they might bite.

by Phunwin on Mar 3, 2010 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

by timmorrison23 on Mar 3, 2010 1:47 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t really see how he lost the job fair and square. He was the number 1 goalie coming into the season he got injured, tuukka and him had pretty much identical numbers and then the team started playing like shit in front of him.

by ike6116 on Mar 3, 2010 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, this one goalie had a great season and all but he’s had some bad games so we should probably give up on him.

Thomas has had one good year

out of the 6 he has been in the NHL, he got a chance be, he made due, but lets not make it seem like he is about to enter his prime and be anything more then average for here on out, he is 35 going to be 36, can play well in spurts but is nothing special, def not worth the 5 mil a year

Great comment on TSN’s live blog

[Comment From Chia]
Now that Seidenberg takes care of the B’s scoring problems I guess it’s time for a nap.

when they announce getting Lubomir Vishnovsky I am going to freak out because I called that 2 months ago

by timmorrison23 on Mar 3, 2010 2:17 PM EST up reply actions

yes, please more defensemen.

Excuse me while I channel my inner Rick Pitino:

“BOBBY ORR IS NOT WALKING THROUGH THAT DOOR!”

Puck moving defensemen, that’s great and all but who the hell is that puck moving defensemen even going to move the puck TO? One of our stiffs will just magically be able to find the net?

Penner?…he can score (sometimes) big salary, but with Savard maybe he’ll be more consistent…don’t like the length and salary of that contract though. I don’t even think he’s available, but he is what Boston is looking for a first line scoring winger for Savard

Expect to hear about some deals after 3, they just have to have the call in before 3.

Bob McKenzie is saying Ray Whitney is not getting moved. Haggerty the Bruins were in on him, but he wanted an extension.

Steve Staios and Andrew Cogliano from Edmonton perhaps with Michael Ryder involved. Let’s see if they get it done before 3 p.m.

And there’s the horn to sound the ending of the 3rd period.

From the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch: "The Bruins are done. There won’t be any deals in Beantown for a forward.

Jump of the Zakim if it's true

A center (yeah we need another one of those) who is -7
and a defensemen (rage) who is -19

TSN’s Bob McKenzie puts the stamp on the Bruins’ day: “Boston did not make any more trades.”

by BlueNGoldBomber on Mar 3, 2010 3:15 PM EST reply actions

This trade deadline

feels like a microcosm of the Bruins season, we did nothing to take a step forward.

by ike6116 on Mar 3, 2010 3:18 PM EST reply actions

this deadline day.........

was like school in July………no class……….

deadline day……..more like dud-line day

by timmorrison23 on Mar 3, 2010 3:28 PM EST up reply actions

aren’t you glad you took the day off?

by ike6116 on Mar 3, 2010 3:29 PM EST up reply actions

I just got off of the Dennis Seidenberg conference call. Didn’t say too much earth-shattering. He said he doesn’t know many guys on the B’s besides Sturm and Mark Recchi (played together in Philly).
