Derek Morris traded to Phoenix for a 4th round pick in 2011
TSN is reporting that Defenseman Derek Morris has been traded to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for a 4th round pick in 2011.
Morris played parts of 5 seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes from 2003 to 2009. He had 25 points (2-23-25) in 58 games with Bruins this season.

So it's back to the worst hockey city in North America for Zack Morris' dad. Derek Morris wasn't exactly the puck-mover that everyone anticipated him being when the Bruins signed him in the off-season and at $3.3 million there has to be better option available on the blueline for the B's. This move is obviously to dump cap space to set up a move later in the day. Stay tuned.

I like that even after the playing in Phoenix and Boston, the player picture has him as a rag.
Also I don’t really like this deal all that much.

I actually think it's not hard to like this one.....as long as it's setting things up.
I liked the Morris signing when it happened, but at the end of the day he did more harm then good. Wasn’t effective on the ice really and I think he confused things for bipolar Wideman a bit as well.
$3.3m is a good amount of cash to have back in the fold for a better defender or more ideally a goal scorer.
I hope the cap space goes towards a goal scorer, because I feel trading Morris to bring another defender in, is stupid. I’ve heard Kevin Paul Dupont say the B’s were looking into Joe Corvo and Hamhuis. In my eyes neither is a huge upgrade over Morris, better, but not earth shakingly better. And if the one who comes isn’t resigned it was a waste. Hamhuis and Corvo are going to cost a lot more then we received for Morris, and neither is going to change the success of this team. I personally would’ve rathered keep Morris, and go after guys like Hamhuis and Corvo in the offseason, rather then trade Morris for a 4th, and then trade a 1st/A+ Prospect for Hamhuis/Corvo. Basically what I’m saying is Hamhuis/Corvo won’t make the team any better then it is with Morris, and the B’s will have to give up a lot more to get a Hamhuis/Corvo then they received for Morris…sounds stupid to me

Agreed, if that's where this ends up.
Though I did like earlier postulations about Chicago and Timmy Thomas.
Serious cap issues there, serious Cup run potential, Goaltender needed.
They’ve moved a couple pieces but offering Thomas to them with $3.3m left to take on could be mutually beneficial.
Not sure what they’d do with Huet’s $$, or who really would be available to the B’s now – but this option sounds better then either Corvo or Hamuis.
I wonder if Eric Cole is avail out of Carolina?
I’m a fan of Seidenberg, though, after I went on that rant about how trading Morris for another D-Man would be stupid lol. Bruins are really stocking up on Defensive Prospects this deadline too

Adios Derek,
I always thought he’d be better than he was. Watching him, I just assumed he’d score more (assists), I mean, he skates well, pretty good puck handler, etc.
Oh well.

I hate that I can't sign off with "bt" anymore.
