Audio: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli on #2 pick
Peter Chiarelli spoke to the media following the NHL Draft Lottery:
"I will be keeping this pick. If anything we will try to move up, but it won't be going anywhere."
"I think that we are the second lowest scoring team in the league, so knowing that we are going to have a shot at one of these two guys I was pretty happy."
"I am going to take the bold assumption we are going to take one of those two players (Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin)."

Swooning like a 12 year old girl who just got the text message “Do you like me? Y/N/Maybe”
Ok maybe not but very happy to hear that Cam Fowler will not be our first pick
I don't know....
They may actually benefit more from a Center like Seguin. But, if you’re right. I have no issues at all taking Tyler……put him on the right wing. :)
I would love to have Seguin on this team, but Edmonton has all but announced its choice already.

What's really interesting
is what the Bruins might be able to do with their own 1st round pick. Now that the Toronto pick will definitely be used for a potential franchise forward, they have a ton of freedom with the other one. Package it right and it could be valuable either to move up or to get a player from a lower-picking team. I don’t know about superstars, but Chiarelli could get good return on it.
What’s also intriguing is the idea of using it to get some salary cap flexibility. The B’s are well stocked with prospects. Why not go to a team like the Islanders and say “we’ll give you our first round pick if you take Wideman and Ryder’s contracts off our hands”? They’ve got far more salary cap space than they’re going to spend, and they’ve done a fair-to-middling job of stockpiling young talent. They might like the idea of adding another first rounder to the mix in exchange for eating a couple of mistake contracts that will have expired before they’re ready to contend anyway.
A swap of our #1 plus Wideman and Ryder for Dwayne Roloson makes some sense for the B’s if PC can get that oft-rumored Thomas for Gagne trade done. Those two deals would save about $4M in cap room next year and a whole lot more after that. That’s flexibility that would be crucial to locking up Bergeron and Chara and getting some help in the FA market.
With a second rounder, I’m hoping for Kiril Kabanov. Yeah, he’s got attitude issues that make Taylor Hall look like a delight. So what? Most picks after the first round don’t come anywhere near making the NHL. Why not take a flyer on a guy who has the potential to be great, and if he flames out, he’s scarcely different than the majority of second rounders who either never make the league, or never make any sort of impact.
Unless PC overpays for Stuart, Wheeler, Seidenberg/replacement, Recchi’s replacement and the lower line guys (a scary possibility given the GM’s history, I admit), then I’d rather use that pick if there’s, say, another quality scorer prospect or the right type of d-man available at 17th. It’s not a bad spot, after all. But if no-one stands out, the what you suggest isn’t a bad idea IF you believe that Wideman and Ryder are finished. I’ll watch the playoffs before making any final judgment on those guys – Ryder was fantastic last year after a so-so regular season, so perhaps he’ll be good this time after a poor season. Who knows. Though of course they need to do something to make the salaries work.
Agreed on Kabanov. If you have the chance to get a possible differencemaker in the draft, you do it. Grabbing surefire 3rd-liners that you can replace with any $1 million UFA isn’t a good way to use higher round picks.
