Marco Sturm to miss remainder of playoffs with torn ACL & MCL
The Bruins announced today that forward Marco Sturm will miss the rest of the playoffs with a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee. The B's winger injured the knee during his first shift in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. He attempted to throw a check at Flyers defenseman Matt Carle and his leg hit the boards awkwardly. Sturm is expected to undergo surgery in the next 4 to 6 weeks once the swelling in the knee subsides. After surgery, Sturm will likely be out of action for 6 months while he recovers. The injury to the veteran forward's right knee comes just over a year after tearing the ACL and meniscus in his left knee.

Horrible news
I certainly didn’t think it was that serious when it happened.
I wish Sturm the quickest recovery possible.
Yeah, the actual hit and knee movement didn’t look terribly bad. By comparison, Looch’s high ankle sprain earlier in the season looked much worse. With that news, Marco will miss a good chunk of next season at best. Guy just has some bum knees it seems, which isn’t good for his longevity in the sport.
yeah, but knee injuries do that a lot, they look innocent enough but turn out to be very damaged, but dont tell that to willis maghee

LOL. I was skeptical when they scratched Thornton in favor of Begin…and then Begin scored the first goal of the game and reminded me why Claude Julien’s the coach and I’m not.
I do think having Thornton out there is a good idea. Someone’s going to have to drop the gloves with Carcillo before this is over. I’d like to think someone will ask Pronger to dance, but I doubt that’s happening.
Ask pronger to dance? Have you not seen The Pronger Stomp? It was a sensation out west a couple years ago.

I would guess Thornton, but they do have several players from Providence up. You can’t “call-up” a player this time of year.

That's too bad.
His speed up the ice changed defensive planning though. That’ll eventually show it’s head.
But, we have to go on what we’ve seen, and so we’re losing no points.
How long does he have to be out of the lineup before we could use the cap space? He’d need to be done for the whole year if I’m not mistaken?
No, I you can place a player on LTIR that is expected to miss 10 games and/or 24 days.

He’ll start the year on the LTIR meaning we won’t be getting his cap hit until he comes back.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they just shelved him for the year. Not to sound cruel, but that’s $3.5M that could probably be better spent elsewhere.
Why not get 3.5 million worth of player for half a year’s worth of cap hit and salary?
