Lucic's late goal lifts Bruins over Flyers 3-2 in Game 2
Milan Lucic's turnaround slapper with 2:57 left in the game gave the Bruins a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at TD Garden on Monday night. The Bruins will now travel to Philadelphia for Games 3 and 4 with a 2-0 series lead.
Johnny Boychuk got the game's first tally at 5:12 of the first period. Patrice Bergeron won a face-off at the left offensive circle and Johnny hammered a one-timer from the top of the circle directly off the draw.
The Flyers evened it up at 1-1 with 2:54 left in the opening period on a goal from Mike Richards. Vladimir Sobotka tried to play the puck around the boards to Matt Hunwick behind the net, but Ville Leino picked up the puck below the goal line and passed it Daniel Briere, who got the puck to Richards. Richards wheeled out front and fired a snap shot from the right circle that beat Rask for the early equalizer.
"Miro the Hero" Mioslav Satan made it 2-1 at 9:31 of the second period. The Bruins worked the puck around the perimeter and Blake Wheeler pass from the right wing boards found Satan at the right circle. Satan snapped a shot past Brian Boucher for his 4th goal of the playoffs.
Daniel Briere fresh out the penalty box after serving a hooking minor tied it up at 2-2 for the Flyers with 25 seconds remaining in the second period. Briere joined the breakout and got a pass from Ville Leino on the right wing and fired a wrister from the right dot that Tuukka Rask couldn't handle.
Milan Lucic got the go-ahead goal for the B's with 2:57 left in the third period when his turnaround slapper of a bouncing found its way past Brian Boucher to make it 3-2.
Notes:
- That's real cute how Peter Laviolette wears orange ties behind the bench. I wonder if he has trouble writing on the dry erase board with those pom-poms in his hands?
- Daniel Briere may have gotten away with a pick on Richards goal.
- Several media members including Bob McKenzie of TSN were reporting that Daniel Carcillo was claiming that Marc Savard tried to bite his finger during their second period scrum after Savard swatted at the catching glove of Flyers goalie Brian Boucher. Marc Savard was suspended in 2003 for biting Darcy Tucker.
- According to Joe Haggerty of CSNNE, one of his sources told him that Mike Richards said something to Marc Savard along the lines of "You were out for six months. We're gonna take you out for another six months."
- The Bruins won 59% of the draws tonight. Patrice Bergeron won 16 of the 22 face-offs he took.
- Tuukka Rask made 24 saves.
- Michael Ryder had a team-high 6 shots.
- Game 3 is Wednesday night in Philly.

“75.6 Reports – It is the responsibility of all game officials and all Club officials to send a confidential report to the Commissioner setting out the full details concerning the use of obscene gestures or language by any player, goalkeeper, Coach or other team official. The Commissioner shall take such further disciplinary action as he shall deem appropriate”
i guess if you were to take that wording VERY literally, you could make a case that what richards said was obscene and inappropriate, and could warrant disciplinary action from the league. however, no on ice penalty, nothing said about it during the game, so nothing is going to happen, as it shouldnt

This one is not enforced. I doubt these reports make their way to Bettman’s office very often. The refs say some things that could be considered obscene as well I’m sure.

I think he meant 6 weeks. He repeated the quote again on another appearance on CSN and at first said “months” then corrected himself to say “weeks”.

Carcillo is getting all the Flyers fans panties in a bunch
He has them believing him that Savard bit him.
Those guys over there are not nice and they worship Carcillo for some reason
I don’t know I want to be reinstated, I might not want to deal with them.

Carcillo is also a great agitator but the diving crap is B.S. I would take Carcillo over Begin though.

It was more the timing and the mini flame war it caused than anything. I’m not Travis and I do not know if he permanently banned you or will reinstate you or what not, but we do not mind you coming over and discussing the game and the series with us, but right after the game when we are angry and frustrated is not the problem. Even if you are just coming over and trying to have fun, people take it as gloating and/or trolling. Let some time settle between the time the game ends and the time you come over to discuss (generally all is good by the morning after). Come over too soon, even if it’s just in good fun, and you get what happened tonight. Flyers fans say things they do not mean, you get angry in turn, and by the end of it, you are banned.

I do not think it is as much what you said, as it was the timing of it and the ruckus it started causing.

I would think (and hope) so. Email him, tell him you are sorry, I’ll put a kind word in for you tomorrow (there may still be some ill feelings tonight), and if he lets you back in, choose your timing better next time. Best of luck!
Travis is generally pretty laid back with commenting and this is the first time I can remember that someone got banned for not blatantly posting spam ads or something. I honestly have no idea, but I am guessing you are only banned for a few days, and not permanently banned. Regardless, your best route would be to email him and work things out like that.

I think that Carcillo is a better player than Begin by a good margin. However, the guy is a penalty machine. He led the NHL 2 years running in penalty minutes before this year (he finished 4th). And it’s not just because he’s a prolific fighter; a lot of it is lack of discipline, which costs his team. He’ll get better as he gets older, but right now, his lack of discipline washes out much of the advantage that he would have over Begin.
There’s an interesting piece over at broad street hockey from a little while ago lauding Carcillo for maturing after his last 4-game suspension.
Of course he has the highest PFON/60 (penalties taken by his team per 60 minutes played) in the playoffs right now, per behind the net.

snicker
Nice find. I love the idea that he’s only dropped down the PIM leaders because he missed some time due to a suspension. Now THAT’S seeing the forest for the trees!
What’s interesting about the PFON/60 stat is that he actually has drawn more penalties than he’s taken but he always seems to be on the ice when someone ends up taking a penalty for the flyers.

If that’s the case, then Savard should have let Carcillo shove the finger all the way down his throat, then used that as an excuse to throw up on him. Way more disgusting, but also way more awesome.
LOL
It wouldn’t affect him, he’s a pile of puke anyways

turnovers & breakout
I wouldn’t say Boston won this by getting lucky, they earned some luck, but these things have a way of evening out over a series…It would be great to see Boston breaking out of their end w/ better consistency and composure. I’d say if Boston’s game remains as is, the forechecking Flyers are due. And if lucky enough to get to the next round (or two), its hard to see how weathering the storm and leaving it to Tuukka will result in victory…re: foul language, my housemate was shocked one game reading shawn thornton’s lips from the penalty box: “they can say that?”???? It was fun to see Claude explode on the bench too after the Flyers tied it at the end of the 2nd. I believe he swore.
by skatepassnshoot on May 3, 2010 10:53 PM EDT reply actions
I felt like the B’s were fortunate to be tied at 1 after the first; seemed like Philly was the better team in the first period. It evened out some in the second, but the defensemen were extremely lazy on that late goal, and Briere made them pay. Now, it wasn’t a total screwjob; they were playing Briere to the outside, hoping to force a bad angle shot, and Briere fired a laser at the net, but still, they should have knocked his ass off the puck. It imagine they got lit up in the locker room after that, because they played a MUCH better third period. Boston was the better team in the third by a wide margin.
Nice to see this team taking advantage of another team’s mistakes, when it was the other way around for so much of the season.
@HackswithHaggs
More Marc Savard on Daniel Carcillo: "I don’t know if he wanted me to look like him. But he tried to pull [my teeth] out. That’s for sure"

Richards telling Savy he would put him out for another 6 months.
He said that to him because, he was out for a total of 6 mons this year with injury and he also said it because the flyers are trying to get to our top gun like any team does when they play the Bs….the part that gets to me as a huge Bruin fan is why nobody has pasted carcillo yet for even bothering savy after a 2 month concussion injury they woulda killed anybody who tried that with Bergy Cmon Bss step up and paste this guys face against the glass like we did with kaletta in the first round…was pretty funny after his face got rearanged he didnt agitate too much after that did he….carcillo needs the same thing…..such a joke he is diving and acting…Don cherry nailed that crap on coaches corner when he pulled that against the devils and now hes doing the same garbage have some honor for the game you rat!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re right there should have been 4 Bruins jumping Carcillo there, but what else is Carcillo going to do? “It’s OK for you to take hacks at my goalie because you had a concussion”?

Richards' Goal
I wonder if Pierre McGuire and Ed Olcyk (sp) were as upset with the pick Briere set on Richards’ goal as they were with the alleged pick set by Ryder in game one. Briere might have been called for interference but I actually think that’s good hockey. It happens all the time and it’s one of the only ways to get your shooter some open ice. Just don’t bitch about it when it happens to your yeam. (Yeah I’m talking to you PM and EO)
