Around SBN: VIDEO: Watch I'll Have Another Win the Preakness Stakes

Early reports indicated that David Krejci suffered a shoulder injury, but John Boruk of Comcast Sportsnet Philadelphia reported via Twitter that Krejci broke his wrist and is undergoing surgery in Baltimore:

All we can hope is that Savvy continues to improve and Sobotka steps up big like we know he can. You can’t replace a guy like Krejci but the Bruins have battled injuries all season, the playoffs probably weren’t going to be any different.

Tough news

The Bruins’ team mentality, however, has been quite unflappable lately. I expect them to close the series out in game 4, game 5 at the latest, and if they can keep getting contributions from guys like Wheeler, who stepped up tonight, they can cover for their losses pretty smoothly.

Yeah

the bruins are built on thick defense and goaltending anyway, and still have enough scoring skill.

by revived0103 on May 6, 2010 3:24 AM EDT up reply actions

I wouldn’t call it scoring skill, maybe something like scoring potential……you’ve seen some of the dry spells our forwards have gone through

Why would he go to Baltimore for surgery and not come back to Boston, hospital capital of the US?

This is a big loss, but we got through Buffalo minus Savard, so I’m not writing off the B’s yet.

Maybe there’s a specialist for whatever he’s got there.

Maybe he wants to be with his teammates?

Oh and I’m sure Baltimore hospitals are decent….especially at surgery. Can you imagine how many gunshot wounds they fix up on a daily basis?

by delta on May 6, 2010 9:31 AM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Actually that’s a good point. This could be a good sign – flying him back in the middle of 2 away games would be a much worse sign. Here’s hoping this morning they re-evaluate positively.

The hand center in Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore is the best in the country. So that’s probably why. And I live across the street from it. Shaq came here to get his hand checked earlier this year.

This sucks, to be sure. But everyone’s got injuries this time of year. Krejci did a great job taking the hit to get the puck to Satan. He took one for the team.

Boo...

But, what’s done is done and can’t be changed. How do we think Marchand and/or Whitfield will do?

by Arenacale on May 6, 2010 11:39 AM EDT up reply actions

Not as well as Krejci.

Marchand has lots of hustle in his game and he likes to hit and be hit. I don’t mind having him out there. He’s not Krejci, but I don’t feel like he’s just a turnover machine.

Weird question: Would you rather have Krejci or Savard? They survived pretty good without Savvy, but Im not sure they can without Krejci. Would you rather Savard had not come back but you have Krejci, or have Savvy and lose Krejci like they did?

Weird question

I agree, it is a weird question.

Probably would have to go with Savard, but Krejci’s been playing really well too. I’d rather lose neither.

agree, neither would be nice.

I’d rather have Krejci. The Lucic/Krejci/Satan line has been the team’s best in the playoffs so far. Krejci brings more defensive ability to the table than Savard, too. But it’s close.

Now, if you were to ask “would you rather have Savard and Stuart back?” you’d get a different answer.

by Phunwin on May 6, 2010 1:15 PM EDT up reply actions

Stuart has been skating but I don’t think he is medically cleared yet. Hopefully he can come back for a game 5 if needed. He may not be 100% but he will cut into Wideman’s ice time.

by MattS on May 6, 2010 2:27 PM EDT up reply actions

I would assume he would cut heavily into McQuaid’s ice time, not Wideman’s. The Hunwick/Wideman pairing has been pretty good…to my absolute amazement.

by Phunwin on May 6, 2010 4:30 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Mcquaid’s lower-body injury will cut into his ice time, too.

Yeah except for that Briere breakaway. That was one of the worst plays of the post season
