Bruins looking for sweep in Game 4 in Philly

Photo

When the Bruins take the ice at Wachovia Center against the Philadelphia Flyers for Game 4 tonight, they will try to accomplish something that they have not achieved since 1992: advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. The B's pushed the Flyers to the verge of elimination with a 4-1 win in Philadelphia in Game 3 on Wednesday night. The B's will be without David Krejci tonight and for the rest of the playoffs after the B's center suffered a dislocated wrist in the first period of Game 3.

The first period will decide the series I think. If the Flyers come out and can’t make it happen, all might be lost. They looked like a very frustrated bunch on Wednesday. If the Bruin’s can come out with lots of spark and light them up early the dominos will start to fall for the Flyers. I’m all for the Bruins kicking the Flyers all over the ice, but I really hope the fans in Philly are a little more respectful of their team tonight.

I think there’s something to that. (By “decide the series”, I assume you mean “decide it in Boston’s favor”). I thought Philly looked like the much better team in period 1 of game 3, but they lost a lot of steam as the game went on. If the Bruins get an early advantage, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Flyers just packed it in.

The extra rest that would come with a sweep would be a HUGE help to the Bruins. Getting Stuart back is crucial, I think, as is getting Savvy back to 100%. I thought Stuart was our second-best defenseman for most of the season. Chara and Boychuk are doing yeoman’s work right now; need someone to take some pressure off.

Pronger doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy that folds up like a cheap suit. However if Richards gives up goals looking for the big hit much more they’ll be screwed.

While the hit was clean I think the Bruins should focus on trying to lay a big hit on Richards, Karma eventually says that Richards will get his. The Bruins could even some scores with Daniel the Hack Carcillo and Mop Head Hartnell if they want…

by Eric B on May 7, 2010 12:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Evening scores with hartnell would be along the lines of letting philly score when he’s on the ice. So let’s not do that.

i’m with you there.

philly has been a bit over-zealous on the physical play and look where that got them

by delta on May 7, 2010 4:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Say if tonight’s game gets out of hand I would like to see the Bruins even some scores I am not saying if they are up big or winning, because it would be nice to get the sweep. The Flyers won’t go quitely. Nothing would please me more than watching Lucic pound the living crap out of Carcillo or Mop Head.

Finish them off now, get a rest while the Pit-Montreal series goes six games or more.
If Stuart doesnt play, who will? Penner?

Even if B’s loose tonight I still like our chances much better. The most important thing is, however, to stop shedding blood of our key players. IMHO, B’s must make it abundantly clear that open ice hits, albeit clean and legal, will carry a price tag as well. Outhit them early, line up Richards for a nice hip check and I couldn’t care less if they bring it back home or do Flyers in right there; just don’t follow Sharks’ last night’s script. Go Bruins!

The Bruins have four games to close them out, lets get it on…

Yes, taht is good news, Stuart’s toughness is needed.

I wonder if this will be another No Show by the Philly “Faithful”

by delta on May 7, 2010 12:42 PM EDT reply actions

Excellent news!

My day started out well, but took a serious nosedive halfway through the morning. Therefore, based on how things are going, I predict a Bruins 5-2 win.

by Arenacale on May 7, 2010 2:22 PM EDT reply actions

So what your saying is…..your day is shitty, so the bruins will win? interesting. I thought when things are going shitty, typically things don’t go your way (bruins loss).

by delta on May 7, 2010 2:44 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

So far it’s worked out this way. Don’t know why, not going to question it.

I’m wearing my lucky jersey, lucky pants, and fighting the celtics crowds for my lucky pre-game meal. Here’s hoping.

Goddamn, I’ve gone insane.

already got the krejci sweater on. sure hes out, but the jersey has been hot as a pistol, so no need to switch it up now

The Looch sweater has only 1 loss in the playoffs…but the Bruins are unbeaten when I watch the game with my cat.

lol thats totally what i thought of when you said merchandising

by BlueNGoldBomber on May 7, 2010 4:28 PM EDT up reply actions

question of the day

Marchand or Whitfield?

Personally, I’d go with Marchand

by delta on May 7, 2010 4:18 PM EDT reply actions

definately marchand. whitfield wouldnt be a terrible option later, but i like how marchand has looked in comparison to this type of series. i feel like his game would go well against philly

by BlueNGoldBomber on May 7, 2010 4:19 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah he kind of reminds me of Paille

by delta on May 7, 2010 4:22 PM EDT up reply actions

apparently Whitfield has 14 playoff games though…..I guess they should just see who’s having better shifts and go from there

by delta on May 7, 2010 4:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I’d rather they play Marchand. He’s the one who has a future with the team. Getting him some playoff experience now would pay dividends. Its unlikely that picking one fourth line fwd over another will make a big difference.

by Phunwin on May 7, 2010 4:30 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

Whitfield. Go with experience. Plus, he does more of the things Krejci does, obviously not as well but…
