Is $4M Nathan Horton coming to Boston?
From James Murphy at NESN
Adding $4M will make it interesting to see who goes.
What's this guys story on the way down or worth all the money until 2013?

From what he was saying, it sounds like the deal is close. I’ll reserve judgment until I see what we’re giving up, but I love the idea of getting Horton. For all the talk about him being an underachiever and not trying hard and such, he’s consistently had a good plus minus, despite being on a terrible team. And frankly, his goal total from last year would have led the Bruins. OK, that’s not hard, but still. He’s young, he needs a change of scenery, and we’re probably getting him for a fraction of his full value. I am very enthused, and look forward to seeing what happens.
Imagine putting the 6’2, 229 pound Horton on a line with Looch. That might have the makings of Legion of Doom v.2.0.
It would be nice if they can get that pick from Fla along with Horton and dump some salary in the process, take care of everything all at once, wishful thinking, but its going to be significant either way.

Well, if they were willing to swap picks with Florida, I’m sure the Panthers would do Horton for Ryder in exchange for the B’s trading down a spot. But, I can’t imagine that happening.
The B’s definitely would like to move up from 15 to 3, but to move up 12 spots AND get Horton in the deal? They’d have to give up something significant, like Krejci (as Matt Kalman suggested) or that oft-rumored Savard/Wheeler tag team, unless Dale Tallon has a man-crush on some of our prospects.
This makes ZERO SENSE for the B's if a center is involved.
Couple thoughts here:
- Moving a Center before the draft assumes Sequin and not Hall is the #2 pick, slight risk there.
- I don’t like Horton nearly enough to give up any of the B’s top 3 centers.
- On a team where effort, grit and determination came into question far too often last year, removing any of the B’s top 3 centers not only reduces production it takes away some of the best and highest effort on the B’s. To do this move for a career underachiever with effort questions makes zero sense.
- Do do this for a player with the above resume who is more expensive the ANY OF THE THREE CENTERS WHO WOULD BE MOVED, would be even crazier.
- I we want that type of player, lets just go with the devil we know and resign Wheels. He’s already in the system and will be about 50% the cost of Horton.
- If they really want Horton and are willing to give up a C, #3 pick has to be part of this deal as does additional salary from the defensive side. (Hunwick is probably more likely the Wideman)
It is also possible this conversation is entirely designed to make acquiring the #4 pick easier.
Horton is Ryder’s cap hit, only somewhat better at scoring and 5 years younger. I’d take him.

Assuming you can move Ryder and not a Center, yes
but to move a center to get Horton, and still be stuck with Ryder….no thanks
I think you are right on with this making no sense if its Horton for a Center but if the #3 pick is involved and they are moving some salary, I would think it can’t happen without a center. Ryder,Wheeler Wideman, Hunwick would be great but no chance.

This is weird
ESPN Rumor Central is reporting that the Bruins are on the verge of acquiring Horton.
We heard the Boston Bruins were one of many teams in on Nathan Horton, but now a source tells WEEI.com that they are now “on the verge” of acquiring the 25-year-old winger.
However, here’s the article they’re citing for that proposition. It doesn’t say anything even remotely like “a trade is imminent”. In fact, it says the opposite, that a trade isn’t imminent, and that there are a few teams in on Horton.
It appears the Bruins may not be on the verge of acquiring Florida Panthers forward Nathan Horton, according to a source close to the situation. Reports surfaced this weekend that the Bruins had been closing in on a trade for the former third overall pick, but the Bruins were just one of multiple teams to nearly have a deal with the Panthers in the past few days.
So, maybe ESPN has some additional info on this one, and they just cited the wrong story? Well, there’s nothing new about it at WEEI. So, really, we don’t know where this whole thing stands.
Third option: ESPN doesn’t know what it’s talking about.

from joe haggerty just before 2pm today!
Don’t be shocked if Marc Savard is headed to Florida in Nate Horton deal to Bruins. Been hearing he’s involved, but haven’t confirmed yet
