The Bruins Draft 2010 Day 2

LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 26: Ryan Spooner, drafted in the second round by the Boston Bruins is interviewed during day two of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft at Staples Center on June 26, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Jeff Gross/Getty Images)

Round Two--

     32nd Overall--

Jared Knight, Center, London Knights, 5'11 190 lbs.

So in round 2 the Bruins grab another center.  Reading up on Knight I found that he also plays right wing, as he did for the London Knights.  Knight had 87 points in 130 games for the Knights, including a 36 goal campaign last season.

     45th Overall--

Ryan Spooner, Center, Peterborough Petes,5'10 175 lbs.

With their 2nd pick in the 2nd round the Bruins pluck another center.  Spooner plays wing as well as center much like the two other Bruins picks.  Spooner had 112 points in 109 games for the Petes.

Round Three--

No Selection due the trade for Dan Paille

Round Four--

     97th Overall--

Craig Cunningham, Left Wing, Vancouver Giants

With what seemed like an eternity between picks the Bruins had plenty of time to evaluate their next pick.  That Pick was Craig Cunningham.  Cunningham had 37 goals and 60 assists for the Giants, who were also Milan Lucic's old team. Cunningham played with Lucic in his first season with the Giants, and has been training with Lucic lately.

Round Five--

     135th Overall--

Justin Florek, Right Wing, Northern Michigan

I am very surprised the Bruins to this point haven't drafted a defenseman.  In the fifth round they opt for winger Justin Florek out of Northern Michigan.  He had 35 points in 41 games this past season.  He is a big boy at 6'4 200lbs.

Round Six--

     165th Overall--

Zane Gothberg, Goaltender, Thief River Falls High School (Minnesota)

Hey at least it's not a forward.  In 25 games he posted a 1.84 GAA and .922 save percentage. He has verbally commited to the University of North Dakota

Round Seven--

     210th Overall--

Zach Trotman, Defenseman, Lake Superior State University

Finally the Bruins get their defenseman. In 36 games he had 8 points, the 6'4 210 lb defenseman is a tough stay at home defenseman.

Knight seems like a reach

But I haven’t scouted the way they have…

Jared Knight was not, in any way, a reach. He was a damn nice pick at #32. Top-end skill, dropped only because the first half of his season was garbage. And why was it garbage? Because the kid had diabetes that had been going untreated. He got treatment for it and voila – neck and neck with Kadri for the best player on his team. Getting him at #32 was a coup.

Yeah, and considering they have depth at that position on the Farm

you gotta wonder whether there were any good D or Wings left out there. Doubt it.

Which B's team is this?

2nd rd

Spooner is a center. Loading up on scorers is not such a bad thing. Spooner and Knight come from proven programs. Not saying this makes them guarenteed money but it helps.

If/when you get some info on Knight,

please share. #32 pick is still high enough to consider making the big club.

There’s a chance Knight could make it, but I seriously doubt the Bruins will rush him. The Bruins aren’t the Oilers – they don’t need the bodies. They can afford to develop Knight at his own pace.

Bruins have traded Vladimir Sobotka for the rights to Boston University player David Warsofsky. #Bruins #NHLDraft

Shitty i was a huge fan of Sobotka…but atleast we got a local kid to come in. Warsofsky is pretty damn good

woulda liked to see the b’s take McFarland with that 32 pick, or maybe even take a chance on Kabanov it really wasnt that long ago that Kabanov was considered a top 5 pick before he lost his mind

Having seen all of them play live, you’d be crazy to take McFarland or Kabanov over Knight. All things being equal, I’d take Spooner over McFarland even. Kabanov would have been a very high risk/high reward guy at 32. While I think he will pan out, I wouldn’t be comfortable with the risk.

I've been watching McFarland since his first training camp in Sudbury

Definitely an attitude problem, but the guy has all the skills. Very very talented offensive hockey player, I would have liked to see the Bruins pick him at 32.

All this buttoning and unbuttoning

Bruins also took Maxim Chudinov, 5’11" 187 lb defenseman from Cherepovets Severstal of the KHL in the 7th round (195th overall). He played with B’s blueline prospect Yuri Alexandrov.
