Recchi hints at Savard trade?
According to CSNNE.com, several Marc Savard trade rumors have been shot down withen the last 48 hours, including the Savard-for-Kaberle rumor. But in the same article, Mark Recchi discussed the possibility of trading Savard. Here are some quotes:
"Obviously I really like Savvy [but] you never know what's going to happen," said veteran Bruins forward Mark Recchi. "General managers explore everything and if there's a viable option there to move Marc Savard then you've got to look at it.
Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli, continued Recchi, "might be looking for a different dynamic. We've got [David] Krejci, [Patrice] Bergeron and now [Tyler] Seguin [at center], and we've got some young centermen coming up, so [Chiarelli] might be looking at the big picture right now as well as the overall.
"Maybe [Chiarelli] gets the defenseman he's looking to get, or he gets stronger in one area while not being so strong at another area. With free agents coming up you could have some depth there if you do choose to move Savard.
"He's a great passer and he's been very good for the Bruins, and I'm sure they're not taking this lightly. If it makes sense for the Bruins then I'm sure they'll do it. If it doesn't, then he'll be here and he'll be a good player for us."
"I think another veteran in the bottom-six forwards would be great, and I don't think you can ever have enough depth on defense," said Recchi. "I think it's important. When you have a good team you need depth. You also need good D-men and that's really important.
"I think Peter knows all of that, and if you can get that with everybody coming to camp in the right frame of mind then we've really got something we can build on."
It kinda sounds to me Recchi is preparing on Savard leaving.

I just like that people are finally starting to write about the things I have said all along about Savvy. He carries himself like a whiney crybaby, he isn’t a leader and probably isn’t all that well-liked in the room.
by Stanley Cup of Chowder on Jun 29, 2010 6:03 PM EDT reply actions
He might not be a leader, but would they give him that long of an extension if he was a DB in the locker room?
I think its pretty slick how he knows what he’s going to do with the puck before he gets it so I hope he isn’t an ass.

Whatever. Despite SCoC’s crusade against savard, the dude is a point-per-gamer with the Bruins and wanting to give that up at 4m per is idiotic.

Chris Gasper brings up some excellent points and even digs into the archives for Harry Sinden’s negative take on Savard.

Chris Gasper is a football writer. Here’s what it says about him on the Globe’s own website:
Christopher L. Gasper
Topics on which writer/editor can comment: Division I-AA college football, New England Patriots
Issues on which writer/editor can comment: NCAA Athletics
I don’t see hockey on there.

The fact that he is isn’t working the B’s beat allows him to write an article like that. If he has to collect quotes in the Bruins room everyday, he isn’t going to write that. Fluto, Steve Harris, Joe Haggerty, Murph etc. can’t write something like this and expect players to talk to them. I have to believe that Gasper spoke with some Bruins beat writers before writing this. You don’t just write something like that with having a sense of what is going on in that room.

So basically you’re saying this was written based entirely on second-hand accounts? Sounds like solid foundation to me.

basically, it sounds like this whole thing has been written and reported on a solid foundation (note heavy sarcasm)

i think he should be traded, but not to toronto because we still got their 1st round pick for next year…if the bruins get rid of him and his cap hit, they could sign a better free agent
i’ll still be sad to see him go if the B’s do trade him though
Married men should forget their mistakes. Why should 2 people remember the same thing?
if the bruins get rid of him and his cap hit, they could sign a better free agent
Look at the free agents on the market. How many are point-per-game players? Not many. How many ppg players are going to sign for 4 million? None.

Anyone else think it's weird
For Recchi to have so much to say about this issue? Shouldn’t a fellow player just say no comment, or maybe even just the first line in the comment above?
All this buttoning and unbuttoning
Thats why I posted this

Between this and an early article the mentioned Savard throwing Vlad under the bus
It seems more and more likely that some B’s perhaps a lot of B’s really don’t care for Savvy too much.
The exact same shit happened with Kessel a year ago.
- Player might get traded, rumors float.
- Boston media starts calling rumored popular and very good player’s character into question
- Player is traded at opportune time after popular opinion of him goes down
Which is different than, say,
- player with known questionable character comes to Boston
- player heralded by media for “turning it around” or whatever
Basically the media doesn’t have shit to do right now so they’re speculating and doing spectacular hatchet jobs like Chris “I learned what hockey is 5 months ago” Gasper did.

Relating to CH's PPG point: over the past 4 seasons only 20-24 players have averaged 1.0 or greater ppg
That is certainly something to keep in mind with Savvy.
Though at this point I’m all for moving him and getting even younger if they can. Not sure how likely that is
First of all there’s a reply button here: ^^^^^^^^
Second, trading him to another team would be neatly gift-wrapping an excellent player (and at a great price point). We’d need to be getting something worthwhile back, and cheap.

Heard a rumor on another site that sounds pretty good to me if Savard would drop his NTC.
BOS gets
Bobby Ryan
ANA gets
Savard
Toronto’s 1st (2011)
2nd (2011)
Why this makes sense for Boston.
With the way Toronto played at the end of last season with the acquisition of Phaneuf and Giguere, added to the fact their young guys will improve, Kessel will be healthy, and whatever they do in free agency and trading Kaberle I don’t see TO being a bottom feeder next year. I don’t see Boston getting an impact guy as they did this year from Toronto’s pick. Boston will be adding a mil in salary about, but for Ryan it’s worth it. In this scenario Ryder becomes expendable for a possible cap space freeing trade.
Why this makes sense for Anaheim.
Hockey sources (McKenzie, Dregger) are already saying teams are going to offer sheet Ryan. The teams in the hunt for him NJ (doubtful), Buffalo, Ottawa, and NYI. 3 of those teams are going to make the playoffs this year and possibly next. If Bobby Ryan is offer sheeted the picks they get in return will be real late in the 1st round and late second. In the Boston deal Anaheim gets a 1ppg + Center for their second line, a first rounder that could be around 8-12 and a decent other pick. Flat out Anaheim has no centers behind Getzlaf. Their centers include Marchant, Koivu, and Carter (NHL ready) then Emerson Etem, Nick Bonino, Nicholas Deschamps, and Peter Holland (prospects). The prospects they have besides the possibility of Etem don’t look too strong. Add to this the possibility of Koivu joining his brother in Minnesota, which is being talked about as a real possibility of happening, and their 2nd center position looks bleak. I personally don’t see it happening, but if you look at it, the deal could make sense for both teams. Boston’s lineup would be stacked with offensive talent up front and back-ended by a shut down defense assuming Ryder and Thomas can be traded (or atlest one of the two)
Lucic Krejci Ryan
Wheeler Bergeron Horton
Sturm/? Seguin Recchi
Thornton Campbell Satan
Chara Boychuk
Stuart Seids
Ference Hunwick
Rask
???
lol even if Tuukka slips a bit that offense has the ability to bail him out (like what Washington, Chicago, and Philly did last season) Probably has a slim chance in hell of actually going down, but it’s fun to wish some times

I think the Bruins give up too much for Ryan. They give up Savard and Toronto’s #1? I might give up the pick, but not Savard for Ryan straight up. And I doubt Savard would waive his NTC to go to Anaheim.

If Bobby Ryan isn’t a Duck next year it means literally nobody is driving the ship over there.
Everyone wants Bobby Ryan but he’d have to really hate Anaheim or overvalue himself to get moved.

ok this is less of a hint,
and more of a blatant announcement that he’s likely to be traded. verrry surprising to me that we would trade one our best offensive players right after trading to improve our offense…
I agree. I hate the whole thing
