Seidenberg's wrist OK'd before signing
Before the Bruins inked Dennis Seidenberg to a 4-year $13 million contract extension, the defenseman was evaluated by the Bruins medical staff. Peter Chiarelli and the Bruins front office wanted to ensure that there were no long-term effects from the severed forearm tendon that he suffered late in the season. It appears that the wrist checked out and should not be an issue for the German blueliner.
"So we finished the deal yesterday. We had to get the signoff on his wrist. We flew Dennis from Florida up to Boston and we had the wrist examined and everything was good so we consummated a new deal."
- Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli during Saturday's conference call to announce the re-signing of Dennis Seidenberg

1 of the bigger off season signings complete, not bad
Seems like a deal around where many here have consider Seids to be worth.
Now we’ll see about manchuck and Stewie – I’ve been reading a lot of the TSN.CA off season plans, and Manchuck is popping up as a defensive options for many teams.
I think the B’s would be well suited to figure out if they can sign him early as well, before the market opens up for him.
yeah thats cool

Getting Boychuck done worries me!
He only made 500K last year and I know he deserves a raise but I wonder if he will ask to jump right up to th 2.5M range. I would normally think 1.3-1.5M/YR for 2-3 years, would be the next step and he had a rough beginning to year but finished solidly.
From his point he has a few years that was lost to evil experiments in the Colorado sytem, and maybe he would be better off waiting until July 1 to see if he can make up some of those lost years.
The Bruins don’t have the space to get into a bidding war, and I don’t PC would do that even if he could. I hope they find a way to get this done I think he’s only going to get better and that is some rocket he can release from the point.

it has to have been the plan all along for him to become a UFA after this season. No reason to keep him out of so many games early in the season and only sign him for one year otherwise.

Certainly could. I’d like him to stick around of course but looking at it I get the feeling it was planned so he’d be a UFA after this season.

You mean planned by the B's
I’m not too familiar with how or why they would do that, but I’ll defer to your knowledge there.
He’s playoff performance certainly is going to increase his pay significantly it seems.
Q is do you sign him or Stuart – or do we think you can still get both and add to the offense?
I’m leaning toward one or the other and personally I’d like to sign Boychuck and perhaps move Stuart – because I don’t believe the B’s get anything from letting Boychuck walk as a FA
They don’t and it doesn’t make any sense, but I don’t see why they would sign him to a one-year deal then keep him out for enough games that we’d have to get 24 playoff games for him to not qualify as a UFA though.

I think they have to dump or trade at least 4M. Whether that comes from one player or a couple of D who knows, but I’d rather see it come from up front since they had so much trouble scoring yet remained a top defensive team.
I think they can keep Manchuck and Stewie and move some salary from upfront, but even if they don’t, any scoring they add won’t be a significant name or salary and would probably come from within (which might not be a bad thing).
Sturm’s injury and the possible increase in the cap might allow them to delay the entire 4M dump until Januaryish, but as everybody has said somebody significant is going to go, i hope its not Manchuck or Stewie.

What does the 21 kid they just signed up mean?
I don’t think he’s starting in Boston this year, but does his signed coupled with Seids mean they are preparing to let Manchuck go?
J3ie or Cornie might have said just that when they signed him. I don’t much about about him but it sounds like he’s too thin for NHL today.
Cornie’s thought on the plan all along was to allow him to be a UFA is interesting. I don’t know why they would do that unless they had no intention of signing him or was there an agreement made somewhere.

Yeah it doesn’t make sense at all but nobody ever said the NHL had to make sense.

While I like Boychuck a lot....what are the chances of regression?
I mean at the end of the day his sample size, while awesome is pretty small. And while he seemingly got better with each game…Dennis Wideman looked REALLY good at the end of last year too, and look where he end up this year.
I’m not saying I expect Boychuck to go all bi polar performer like Wideman, simply pointing out that like many other players, he is not a sure thing just yet.
I think Seids took a little less than what I was expecting
Especially that Morris was paid $3.3M last year, Seids’ contract averages out at $3.25M. Are we thinking that Morris was better than Seids. Not in my opinion. I think that PC may have gotten a good deal.
Off to look at his career stats
Which B's team is this?
