With camp ending and a bit of a lull in off season activity I thought it would be a good time to reflect on and grade the B's moves thus far in the off season.
I would personally give them an A so far.
I liked Seguin over Hall, Knight and Spooner both seem like solid picks, and using the 15th pick on a former top 3 pick with 30 goal potential? Great draft to me
They resigned Recchi and all 3 defensemen which I was highly doubtful they could do.
They got Paille back for a good deal and if the bring Campbell on as the 4th line center that's an upgrade over Begin to me also.
Moving the little engine that could (Vlad) was a bit disappointing but 100% understandable.
If Wheeler can be signed to a 1 or 2yr deal under $2M, that's icing on the cake for me.
Overall I really can't think of how this off season could realistically be going any better. Other then somehow getting cap relief while adding value to the team in a trade (which still could happen) it's hard for me not to suggest this is an A level off season to date.
Off season could get worse though - moving Savard would drop the grade to B, maybe C depending on how it shakes out. I'm not a fan of addition by subtraction or one step forward and to steps back type off seasons.
Thoughts?
Poll
How would you grade the B's off season so far
A: They added offense, resigned their defensemen and were able to move Wideman to boot! (25 votes)
B: They got more potential on O, resigned good players, but they may be moving their best Offensive player and the lingering cap situation is troubling. Jury is still out (50 votes)
C: They didn't get Hall, are up against the cap and still have to round out the roster. Not nearlly enough done. (5 votes)
D: They didn't get an elite scorer, resigned more decent defenders and have no room left in the cap to add any player of value. I hate PC (5 votes)
F: I had a hard enough time writing up "D" reasoning, I can't see how any B's fan would give an F grade, but I'll put it here to be consistent with the grading (1 vote)
