Free Agency Discussion Day 2+ - Reich will lead Providence to the Calder

It's another beautiful day and we're all waiting for Anaheim to sign Bobby Ryan and LA to sign Kovalchuk.

Use this thread for all your Further Free Agency Discussion (unless another spot pops up or the Bruins make a big deal).

Useful resources:

Here's hoping Sather cripples his team further by getting another useless goon and Sutter provides further entertainment.  Also, Chiarelli please stay out of the pool, no need to get your feet wet here.

Enjoy!

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Oilers have zero interest in eating half of Souray’s contract via re-entry waivers. They want to lose his full contract on normal waivers.

Some things I've missed, and you might have too:

(from today)

Strudwick, Jason re-signs in Edmonton for 1 year
Kubina, Pavel signs in Tampa Bay $3.85M/per for 2 years.
Jackman, Tim to Calgary for 2 years
Ivanans, Raitis to Calgary for 2 years

Souray is yet another Defender into the mix, though he’s contract and age are suspect. Then again so was Gonchars

He’s been a rock for the Pens defense for the past couple years, and I’d be surprised if there wasn’t a bidding war.

Also, who was a better defenseman available now? Most players at UFA time get overpaid.

B’s probably don’t have cap room, and Souray has said he wants to play out West cause his kids are out there.

The only upside for Souray is a good point shot and last season he broke his hand and injured his wrist which has the risk of weakening said shot. Toss him on the scrap heap but I figure teams will bite if he goes through re-entry waivers.

Kovalchuk!
Kidding.

I’m looking at Yahoo’s Free Agent Tracker, and there doesn’t seem to be too much appeal for the B’s at that position – at least when considering how much cap space they have to work with.

I’m disappointed there’s no rumours out there to move Ryder instead.

With Jokekinen (pun intended) going back to Calgary it looks like they plugged their #1 centre position with some cotton candy so they are out of the running for Savard.

Yeah Malone had a great first half of the season, but he had an injury at the end of the season. As someone else said somewhere, Ryder is in a contract year so I would keep him and let him play it out. He’ll have a good year and bait another team to sign him just like he did to the Bruins.

Maybe that will make him more attractive, and he’d be my first choice to trade, but he might look too overpaid and underworked!

by SkateHitShoot on Jul 2, 2010 2:35 PM EDT up reply actions

having had him in my hockey pool, I can attest that he dropped off at midseason and did bupkiss after his first of two injuries. Kind of like Lucic. Honestly, I’d consider taking a bag of pucks for Ryder unless he turns it around with being behind a semi-legit #1 RW in Horton.

by BruinsSelectSeguin on Jul 2, 2010 4:43 PM EDT up reply actions

I figure he’s likely aiming for a long term deal at 8mil/year as he’s still fairly young. He left a lot of money on the table at Atlanta and knew that no one was going to match that kind of money. He wants to go to a contender but he also wants the payola.
