Addressing the Bill Guerin Rumors
I have been the biggest advocate of this move, so I'm not going to really complain about this rumor. But sources say the reasoning behind this is that the Bruins may be ready to trade Marc Savard. As you know, I have not been an advocate for that. Another rumor making the rounds is that the Bruins may not feel comftorable with the way Blake Wheeler's arbitration hearing went yesterday afternoon.
I would sign him if it means goodbye to Wheeler, but not Savard.

Would you sign him if it meant keeping Wheeler?

would you sign him if it meant another roster spot goes to a 40 year old player who wont be around for the 2011-2012 season instead of giving ice time to a young player who will have an impact on this team for years to come. look at guys like krejci looch bergeron kessel wheeler etc etc. they “werent ready” to make the leap to the nhl in the years that they were considered unproven and unreliable youngsters. guess what, gretzky and lemieux were unproven and unreliable before they even got a shot. im not saying any of the baby b’s now will be as good as those 2, but give them a shot. its surprised us before

bill guerin is a really good player who has proven himself in ever situation imaginable… however, the bruins at this point don’t need to add another dinosaur to the team like tyrannosaurus recchi. while they’re both great players, over 40 just really isn’t a prime new contract age especially when you’re severing ties with younger, equally talented guys
Recchi is way more valuable than Guerin at this point. Guerin scored 21 goals last year, but 11 of them were on the power play with some of the game’s most talented playmakers getting him the puck. Everyone remembers the player he was when he was in Boston. He isn’t that guy anymore. I say pass on Guerin. I doubt he wants to come back here anyways after the way he was sent packing.

true story… so were saying that we should dump our money into a 40 year old washed up winger who could only put up 45 points while getting a boatload of ice time and a ton of talent around him, being on a line with cindy crosby all year?? yeah, he has a lot to offer a team. bring back miro way before even thinking about guerin

I don’t have a problem with signing a veteran winger for a cheap contract, in a vacuum. Depth on the wing is lacking, and there’s nothing wrong with making kids like Colborne and Caron earn a spot on the team; only Brad Marchand has nothing left to prove in the minors. But, as I pointed out in this thread, Miro Satan and Paul Kariya are both better players, and all are likely in the same price range at this point. Why sign Guerin, given at least two better options in the same price range?
NESN has Glen Metropolit still available. If we really want a “character” guy, Metro would come cheap and be a fan favorite, we all know he plays his ass off.
Holy crap, I forgot that Selanne was available. If he wants to play another year, and would do so for cheap, THAT’S the guy to get. Forget Guerin. Selanne scored 27 goals last year, which not only would have led the Bruins by a mile, he did so in 54 games, putting him on pace for 41 for a full season. I wouldn’t count on that, obviously, but if you can pick up a guy on the cheap who has a good chance to be a 30 goal scorer, that’s an easy call.
I've wanted Teemu for a while
But I really doubt that happens when we are so close to the cap

The next move the B's make needs to be about more then Goals though
I’m not saying go for grinders who can fill out the 4th line, and I’m not sure Guerin is the right guy either – but I would like to see some more veteran leadership added to the team. The way I see the lines now:
Looch / Savvy / Horton
Colborne or Seguin or Sturm / Bergy / Recchi
Colborne or Seguin or Veteran / Krecji / Wheeler
Paille / Campbell / Thornton ( I have a good feeling about the 4 line this year)
I mean right now 5 of the 7 set positions are 25yrs old or younger, assuming Wheels comes back for 1 more.
Savvy and Sturm have never been discussed as strong veteran leaders, so that leaves the final FA spot to help Rechhi, who has stated the team needs more leaders in the locker room.
Eventually the younger guys can take on larger rolls in this area, but I don’t think it’s realistic to expect that this year.
After doing a bit of research – I’m now 100% in agreement with Phun(formerly Phil?) regarding Kariya being a better fit the Guerin, though I wouldn’t mind either of them….or Satan
“The reader formerly known as Phil” By the start of the season he will just be some sort of weird male/female symbol.

Also, my posts will go sharply downhill in quality, becoming steadily more incomprehensible.

Good points. Especially on the veteran leadership thing. You all know what I think about Savard’s leadership qualities. I’m just not sold on Guerin. I think this was a rumor that is never going to come true.

Depending how Krejci recovers from the wrist injury I do believe he’s considered the 2nd line centre and Bergeron as 3rd assuming a healthy Savard is #1.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Guerin for a one year contract, but I think it is time to give Caron or Colborne a chance. With all due respect to Bergeron who I love on this team and who I would love to see end his career here, Krejci is definatly their second line center. He is just ridiculously talanted and if that wrist is ok I feel that he’ll have a year like he did two years ago.
