Trent Whitfield placed on waivers
Fluto Shinzawa of The Boston Globe is reporting that the Bruins have placed forward Trent Whitfield on waivers. Whitfield has been on Long-Term Injured Reserve all season with an Achilles's tendon injury. Teams will have until noon on Thursday to claim the injured 33 year-old depth forward. If Whitfield clears waivers, he will be assigned to the Providence Bruins. I have not heard any updates on Whitfield's health, but the prognosis this summer was that he would likely miss most (if not all) of the '10-'11 season.

So what's the corresponding move going to be?
Only one reason to put him on waivers right? To clear a spot for someone else?
Any ideas?
He was on LTIR so we was not really taking up a roster spot.
