Hitting The Links: Time To Regroup Edition
The Bruins have two days off before facing off against Chicago at the United Center, a building they haven't played in since December 16, 2009. Hopefully the two days without a game will kick some sense into them, as going 1-3-0 to start the season isn't very...um, good. Or promising. Or good.
No real news on Adam McQuaid as of right now, but between he, David Krejci, and Steven Kampfer, the Bruins have already lost six man-games to injury. Last year, all season including Marc Savard's missed time, they lost something like 105 total. They're on pace for a lot more than that right now. Not good.
After the jump, a first NHL goal, Sean Avery reports to the Whale, and Brad Marchand has some choice words about his team's play so far.
Bruins News:
- David Krejci is sidelined with a core injury, Milan Lucic's ankle is still bothering him, is it time to hit the panic button yet? [Globe]
- Adam McQuaid left last night's game after falling into the boards. This is not the first time he's fallen into something and hurt himself. (cough, remember the suitcase, cough!) [NESN]
- Apparently this Cup Hangover thing is for real, then? Brad Marchand isn't too happy about it. [Herald]
- If you had Tyler Seguin on your fantasy team, you're good to go. He had career-high ice time last night and looked good doing it. [NHL]
- Seguin has apparently re-focused coming into this season and is relishing his chance to play center again. [Herald]
- Oh and also, his goal last night was DIRTY. [NHL]
NHL News:
- Looking ahead to Saturday, it's interesting to note that the Blackhawks have a bit of a goalie situation on their hands. [Tribune]
- Dustin Byfuglien and Andrew Ladd return to the United Center for the first time since Game 5 of the 2010 finals tomorrow night. [ESPN]
- Philadelphia Flyers fans are terrible. They actually booed a Hockey Fights Cancer ad last night. New low? [Yahoo]
- Landesbeauty! Gabriel Landeskog scored his first NHL goal last night. Too bad the game was blacked out in Colorado. [Denver Post]
- Alex Ovechkin is unamused by Bruce Boudreau's criticism. [CSN Washington]
- The Rochester Amerks are re-energized by their reborn affiliation with the Sabres. It's so cute. [Democrat]
- How the hockey world is mourning the KHL's 'lost team.' [Pittsburgh Live]
- Ken Dryden never got a day with the Stanley Cup. He's requested one, and is actually getting it. Very cool. [ECAC hockey]
- Saskatoon wins it - they'll host the 2013 Memorial Cup. Already planning a road trip, no worries. [Buzzing the Net]

Funny to read KPD downplaying the goal last night. Said Ward should have had both, and he liked Marchand’s shot better. Why does KDP hate fun?

That is funny, because I saw an interview with Ward and he had praise for Seguin and said that he just plain got beat on his shot.
Yeah, he said the kid got a great shot in and he got beat. KPD does hate fun!

I wonder..
How they are ever going to move Seguin back to wing when Krecji comes back. If he keeps producing like he is, they are going to have to push Krecj down to a #3 center and move some players around.
On a separate note, the depth of young wanna-Bs is starting to reel it’s ugly head. Not only are the P-Bs drowning, Caron made another ugly turnover right in front of his net resulting in a goal. This team needs to start winning games and once they start doing so, it’s OK to slowly integrate the young talent (put them in a position to succeed).
Boychuck also looks horrible, again. No way does he make it to the end of the season.
I don’t think Boychuk looks as bad as he did in the playoffs; it’s either feast or famine with him, though.
Pouliot has been getting some great chances, and Horton has been invisible… I don’t think Seguin playing with BP could be that terrible.

For the record!
I don’t want anyone fired, but I haven’t really been a big Looch fan since the 2011 playoffs began. If he gets his game back and plays angry like he used to, then I’m all for keeping him… if he doesn’t play his game, then I’m happy moving him, too!

I am with you..
Looch is more of a second or third line forward at best and as much as I love his physical game (when he plays it), he is only burning time on the first line. The Bruins need a legit scoring winger with speed (and please do NOT tell me Seguin, he needs to be a center) and hopefully Chia can package Looch and maybe a pick/prospect to get one
Seguin is WAY more effective in the middle than on the wing. I’d be fine with sending Looch and a pick away for a solid top-line winger.

Scoring and toughness
We talked Lucic for van Reimsdyk straight up…before the sweep of the Flyers last spring. Everyone needs a legit scoring winger with speed…so I’m wondering who would be available. Who’s going to give up an LSWWS? Someone would probably give up a “soft” one, maybe young with promise, or an older one that didn’t fit in elsewhere. (think Recchi?) The key ingredient in that wing though, would have to be toughness. And legit scoring wingers with speed and toughness are very few. Agree with many about Lucic’s scoring talents and often find myself shouting after one of his misplays, “I can do that!”, but the toughness he brings to the first line…which sets the tone right down through the team…shouldn’t be under-appreciated, especially if you like to grind teams down over 24 playoff games.

Philly fans were set up to look bad imo lol. Everybody knows they will boo anything that involves Crosby. Non story being made into something bigger then it really is

Agreed.
I don’t really get what all the Crosby hatred is about, tbh. Anyone who is good but not on your team = whiner who has the league in their pocket, IMO

I hate Crosby with a passion…mostly due to the fact that he isn’t on the Bruins lol

I dislike him thanks to the NHL.
It has nothing to do with him as a person and everything to do with the leagues unrelenting marketing campaign. I am generally against anything that is forced down my throat as a matter of principle.

I totally understand that – ever since I can remember, I’ve always unintentionally disliked things everyone else loved, and loved things everyone else didn’t like. Maybe that’s why I like Crosby?
Of course, I like Ovie better than Sid. All in all, though, I think the NHL really needs to market more than 2 or 3 players.

it was Crosby and Toews no less. Having watched to commercial, I can understand it. You would barely be able to make out the Hockey Fights Cancer text in the background behind the players on a jumbotron, and they self-introduce before intro-ing the charity. You’re right Dangles, it’s kinda like they had the rug pulled out from under them – “hey, there’s my mortal enemy, BOOO… wait, it’s in a charity ad? Well that doesn’t look good”
Counterpoint: fuck ‘em, they’re philly fans
