Funny that in the arena renderings, they show a scoreboard crawl in what looks like the main concourse. One of the scores….. “Whales 3 Rangers 0”. Whales?!?!?! It would be a real shame if they brought a team back to Hartford and named it anything but the Whalers (and don’t get rid of that atrocious new logo).
AFAIK they don’t own the Whalers name or logo so they can’t automatically put out there that they’re bringing back the Whalers specifically (I also bet that’s why the AHL team ended up the Whale instead, not some fan outrage).

I believe the city of Hartford owns the logo, but the NHL has licensed it for merch.
