No discipline for McQuaid
In a move that surprised many, myself included, the league's department of player safety has decided that no further discipline is required for McQuaid and that his major and game misconduct were sufficient.
Their argument does make some sense though in that the action was reactionary, not intentional and there was no intent to injure. Doubtless, the fact that Foligno finished the game with no apparent ill effect helped McQuaid avoid the hammer.
Now brace yourself for the return of Bruins-bias claim from the front office...

Wow. I thought for sure he would be sitting for a game at least. I agree that it was reactionary and not a deliberate attempt to injure, and those types are generally a reaction to a guy dekeing around you but still thought he would get one game.
Let the conspiracy theory grow!!
They did it for Savy, they did it for Horton, they did it for each other, they did it for us. I give you the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions....The Boston Bruins!!
I wish Matthew Stafford was Drew Brees. (This is what happens when you back your team and they lose),
I hear Brendan Shanahan is going to come out of retirement just so he can play for the Bruins.
True story.

I really thought he was going to get a couple as well. I totally can understand why he didn’t, too, but I’m still a little surprised.

I think the NHL screwed this one up. He should have gotten at least a game. I would have to assume that the fact that Foligno was back for the next shift and professed to nothing worse than a charley horse after the game contributed to that decision.
Also don’t forget the pro-Bruins conspiracy.

That was it I believe. Lack of history also helped McQuaid and Foligno actually may have done so as well… he is friends with McQuaid and I wonder if he called Shanny on his behalf.
Did at least get fined $2500 for it.

Assuming next time comes within the two year window or whatever it is (I know there is a specified definition for it in the CBA).

The way I feel about it is that yes, it was reactionary and unintentional, however, he still did it, and thus, it should be punished regardless of Foligno’s injury, or lack thereof. Of course, it’s his first offense, so I can understand them only assessing him a fine.
