The Noon Number
4 - The number of Bruins currently in the top 50 goal scorers in the NHL - Seguin (14), Marchand (12), Chris Kelly (12) and Milian Lucic (12).
Boston is currently ranked fourth in the NHL with 108 goals scored on the season and is ranked second with a 3.38 goals per game average. The only team scoring at a better rate is the Philadelphia Flyers at an even 3.5 goals per game.

The goals per game number is even more impressive when considering a couple of other numbers:
0 – number of games played by our #1 center
9 – team rank in points for the replacement #1 center (not to mention his team worst -3 rating).
I don’t mean for that to be a slam on Krejci as much as an admiration for the depth of scoring on this team.
While I love Savvy, it doesn’t make sense to me to still consider him Boston’s #1 pivot. Last year it could be argued but this years team has been built with the knowledge that he won’t be playing.

I agree...
This team has depth in scoring and that is a huge plus. Not many teams out there can say that….
On top of that, the goal differential (+48) is just out of control; the closest team behind us is Detroit, with +36.
Kick his ass, Seabass!
Just think how big the gap would be if Boston didn’t struggle to start the season…

yep
although I wonder if struggling was something they needed to do in order to turn on the jets and get crazy out there… you know how well this team does when their backs are against the wall.

Good point, I’ve thought the same thing. Despite the level of worry early on, that may end up being the best thing that happened all year.

The B’s have scored 111 goals, putting them in 3rd.

Huh, that’s weird. I was looking in the NHL’s Goals For category, which has them listed at 108. Looks like Hockey Reference also has them at 111.

I think you’re right, that’s the only thing I can find to make sense of the 3 extra goals. It matches up with the 4 goals Chicago would have gained from SO wins, which leaves them with 113.

Thats it. Always annoys me that those are included in the goals totals. Makes zero sense.

Exactly, per game Boston is one of the best teams in the league right now (as the win total reflects)

Just 2 goals behind
the leaders, Chicago Blackhawks with 113….
Plus the goals allowed is 63, best in the league….2nd best, Rangers with 68….
Better to go by the per-game numbers rather than raw totals.
Based on per game, Boston is second only to Philly and they are immediately trailed by St Louis in goals allowed.

Every game a different player/line is getting the job done. A very complete team.
