Okay, so
While I’ve emailed the commissioner of the FHL I haven’t gotten a reply. I might call the league office on my lunchbreak.
Another thought about funding: Kickstarter. Granted it would be a huge amount but goddamn I’d love for this to really happen.

Kickstarter + Corporate considerations, maybe? (i.e. local small businesses).

yes!
Ernie Boch Jr loves hockey and built a beautiful rink in Dedham. I don’t know if it’s big enough for FHL though, I’ve only seen pictures.

We are looking to expand next year. The fee for entry is $50,000 . The budget is about $350,000 to $400,000 depending on location. The other pro leagues budget are in the $1,000,000 to $1,600,000. We believe we can make markets work when other pro leagues can’t based on the budget.

So let’s see, if we had half a million that would probably cover the first year.
Now, where to get half a million dollars….

I can think of plenty. Open try outs would be a blast. Also, you will need a scouting dept.

Pretty sure several of us would LOVE to be FHL scouts.

Rink site possibilities
The Bluefins play in a 1500 seat arena, which cost 25 million to build…I think we should try to find an existing barn.
The Outlaws play in a 600 seat arena.

Arena list…doesn’t look like there’s a lot around with plentiful bleachers.
In Memoriam: Dan Wheldon 1978-2011
wait a minute!
What about Walter Brown Arena? (former home of the BU Terriers) …the capacity is 3806, looks like it may only house the BU women’s team… if so, I’m thinking maybe BU would be willing to work something out?
Kick his ass, Seabass!
I was thinking that too. Bright Hockey Center would be perfect as well.
In Memoriam: Dan Wheldon 1978-2011
What about Clark? (UMass Boston)… only issue that I see (without doing any research, haha) is that I believe it houses both of UMB’s hockey teams as it is. Of course, it’s college, so they’re short seasons.
Kick his ass, Seabass!
A longer walk for me, but still very convenient. Does BC high play there, or do they have their own rink?

I think we can safely say that between Servo, Cale and I, we can come up with a decent logo… of course, that can’t be done until we figure out where the team would be.

Since Phil "no relation" Esposito coaches Danbury,
we should find someone named Robert “no relation” Orr to coach our team… or get anyone, and have them change their name legally. We will form a “not exactly former Bruins” rivalry.
Kick his ass, Seabass!
I actually have a friend no realtion.....
and his name is wait for it……
Robert Gordon Orr. You think his parents were Bruin fans??
They did it for Savy, they did it for Horton, they did it for each other, they did it for us. I give you the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions....The Boston Bruins!!
I wish Matthew Stafford was Drew Brees. (This is what happens when you back your team and they lose),
geeee.....
I wonder…
So, is he up for moving to Boston and coaching a FHL team?

Also, re: marketing
I’m betting we could get a 10-minute slot on a Chronicle episode (betting because Chronicle has been in my office twice in the last year or so, so they obviously are not exactly discerning), and we may be able to exhange a number of free tickets to each of our games with local youth hockey leagues for the permission to hang signage on their boards and put ads on their websites.
Kick his ass, Seabass!
Start sending Tweets about a new local team forming to the Bruins during games, Jack is always showing them during the broadcast.
Keep Calm and Tim Tom
Uhhh, brilliant. I bet we could get jack and brick to make an appearance or two.

So it would cost us about $400k/yr
We would probably have to plan to raise/make $500k annually, just to be safe.

by phonymahoney on Dec 7, 2011 3:03 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Well the 500k for the first year includes 50k for the league entrance fee

If we’re good and can average 1000 fans a game at $15 a ticket, with a 20 game schedule that’s $300,000 right there. Depends on building leases and what not. I bet equipment and front office salaries are the biggest expenses.
In Memoriam: Dan Wheldon 1978-2011
I bet you’re right about that
But some teams average what, 150 people/game?

TRIP REPORT: CAPE COD BLUEFINS
Went to the Blue Fins game last night. It was pretty fun and definitely a pro hockey game. Sure they didn’t have any big names but it was fun to watch and well worth the price of admission.
If you’re out on cape cod definitely check them out.

I guess there’s plans to bring an FHL team to Lewiston to replace the MAINEiacs. They had a game here between a couple of teams. Had a bench clearer at the end. I’ll still take the Pirates.
