Don Cherry calls out Andrew Ference for his comments on Daniel Paille's hit.

I don't get this
I mean… Andrew Ference’s comments seemed totally reasonable to me. And yet Cherry gave him a hard time, and today in media scrums, even Paille seemed to be pretty sour about it.
I understand the ‘teammates’ argument, but I don’t buy it. It’s not like he condemned Paille, he just said it was the type of hit the league’s trying to get rid of.

i dont really have an issue with ference saying that the hit was the type of hit that is being cracked down on… and also, i think there may be a possibility that we have seen paille in his last game as a bruin…. the organization, players, and fans all seem to be really down on him. i doubt he has any real trade value, maybe he is a scratch until the trade deadline, where he can be a piece of a deal, and if not, he spends the rest of the year in providence. i honestly feel like the bruins are more likely to bring in a winger than a dman at the deadline (for some reason), so i think paille will be replaced

Chiarelli has clearly stated that they are looking fir a defenseman at the deadline.

I respect Ference’s honesty. It’s actually pretty refreshing. The only thing I would worry about is whether or not that type of comment would divide the room, especially coming from Ference, who has allegedly has caused some turmoil in that room before with the player’s union re/Paul Kelly firing fiasco.

The problem with calling out Paille is that it was Ference who did it. The points were legit but Ference has almost no standing in that locker room. In the wake of the Paul Kelly firing he had a well publicized confrontation with Mark Recchi and was ousted as team player rep. I was surprised the B’s didn’t trade him at that time and I still think he is a divisive force among his teammates. This just has the potential to open up old wounds but Ference seems like the kind of guy who can’t help himself and likes the sound of his own voice.
Players like Ference should be applauded for their honesty and integrity
I’m biased because I really like the guy off the ice, but he seems like a more intelligent breed of hockey player; he’s a global citizen and a hockey player, and I respect that. I think of his progressive acts in recent history, including going to Africa with Right to Play and working with other players to offset their carbon emissions. It’s good stuff, and I think it’s part of the reason he said what he did: He’s not going to lie to protect a teammate who screwed up. And there’s no doubt that Paille screwed up with the hit; it was a perfect example of a lateral blindside hit. After the whole locker room came out in defence of Savard for one last season, you’ve got to applaud someone for avoiding hypocrisy by painting all the hits with the same brush—whether his teammate was the perpetrator or the victim.
My two cents, anyway.

I think he’s a dirty, granola munching hippie who helped potentially sabotage the future of the NHL by his active and willing participation in the ouster of Paul Kelly. He’s right in this case, and he was asked the question so he had to answer, but I can kinda see where Grapes is coming from in that a divisive figure criticising a teammate could damage the locker room.
Just watch the video below. Daniel Paille is saying the right things, but you can tell there is something there.

Between the lines?
On the ice I’ll do alll I can but off the ice I’m gonna piss in the gas tank of his little VW Hybrid, earth-loving piece of crap!

Fair enough. I guess I just like him because I’m an admitted dirty granola-munching hippie, too, and I appreciate the changes he’s tried to make to the NHL (aside from whatever NHLPA business you mentioned, because I know nothing about it).

This was Ference and Paille’s reactions to Don Cherry. http://www.csnne.com/pages/v3_video?PID=m6_Bm0TyxUSbjZmFOoJ8P_HMDuQzAcIR

A Defenseman?
I don’t buy it. I think Chiarelli is posturing. This team is seven deep right now at D, and they have a pretty good one who’s been sitting in the company box for the last six games. What they need is another forward with a little touch and a little grit. I don’t expect a top six type of guy but a 15-20 goal guy that will stir things up a little.
They still need a puck-mover and that is no secret.

Ference knew what he was doing
Check out this video and tell me Ference isn’t an opportunist??? Teams shouldn’t have guys like this if they want to win, is team mate was already in the “hot seat” and was going to get penalized. Rubbing that in and causing more negitive media attention just shows the quality of that person.
