Marchand Suspended Two Games

Stay connected for news and updates

In a move that does not come as a huge surprise, Brad Marchand has been suspended for two games by the NHL for his hit on R.J. Umberger on Tuesday night.  The NHL determined that the hit violated Rule 48, the rule prohibiting head shots. Marchand was disappointed, but hardly surprised:

I understand where the league's coming from.  They really want to crack down on head hits right now. Obviously I'm disappointed to have to miss a couple games. It's always frustrating when you have to watch your team play. But I understand why. The biggest thing is to regroup and make sure I'm ready for when I can get back in action.

Marchand will miss tonight's game against Nashville, and Saturday night's visit to Toronto.
