Playoff Picks - Round 1

Stay connected for news and updates

Because this doesn't merit a full site post...

Vancouver in 6 - They drew the worst possible round 1 opponent, and will still get through.  Chicago's just not quite as good as last year, and you can't really point to one big difference.

SJ in 5 - Loving this SJ team and thinking this might be the year they come out of the West.  Kings...eh, thanks for showing up.

Phoenix in 7 - Detroit is old and slow and Phoenix is young and fast.  The Bryzgalov vs. Howard matchup is lopsided enough to tilt this series.

Nashville in 6 - I do NOT get why the conventional wisdom loves Anaheim here.  The Ducks have one great line and that's it.  Barry Trotz is going to just send the Suter/Weber tandem out there every time Perry/Getzlaf/Ryan line is on the ice.  Throw in what's arguably the most lopsided goaltender matchup of round 1: Rinne vs. Ellis/Emery/a 70% effective Hiller, and the Predators win their first ever playoff series.

Washington in 7 - Washington has enough talent to get by, but Lundqvist will steal at least one game and maybe more.  I almost picked the Rangers but couldn't pull the trigger.

Buffalo in 6 - I'm not buying that Philly can just flip the switch; they haven't played well in weeks.  Throw in the Miller vs. Bobrovsky/Boucher matchup and a Buffalo team that's been better than their record, and I think the Sabres move on.

Boston/Montreal - Coming soon to a site near you.  Stan and I will be posting our picks for this one shortly.

Pittsburgh in 6 - Tampa Bay is badly overrated.  Don't buy them at all.  If Crosby was healthy, I'd have taken Pittsburgh in 4.
